Jay Z has been caught up in the controversy surrounding Barneys New York and claims of racial profiling of shoppers. Prior to the allegations, the hip-hop mogul had partnered with the luxury department store on a designer collaboration for the holidays. While the investigation continues, he has announced that he will move forward with the launch.
In a statement posted on his Life + Times website, Jay Z vowed to tackle the issues head on. He will take a seat on a council that will focus specifically on the issue of racial profiling.
“I am in a unique position to use my voice to affect change to this disturbing issue,” said Jay Z. “I will not leave the outcome to others.”
Additionally, Barneys will donate 100% of sales from the BNY SCC collection to The Shawn Carter Foundation. The company will also contribute an additional 10% of all retail sales on the Nov. 20 launch day.
