Over a sparse, melody-deficient beat, the Philly singer hints that someone may have tried to control her artistic vision and subsequently turned her off from music. “I gotta get out of this program and find out who I really am,” she sings through a digital filter. Jazmine Sullivan recently released her sophomore album Love Me Back, but now she may be throwing in the towel. Last night, the Philly soulstress took to her Twitter account to announce that she was retiring from the music industry, later deleting her tweets, but the shockwaves are still being felt.

“i’m making an official announcement that i am taking a break from music. i’m trying to figure out who i am… w/out a mike, paper or pen,” tweeted the 23-year-old. “i promised myself that when it wasn’t fun anymore i wouldn’t do it. and here i am. i’m not saying i wont ever sing again in my life becuz i dont believe that. but in this moment… rt now… i got some things to figure out.”

Before removing the tweets, she also thanked her fans for their unwavering support and helping her boost her confidence as a performer. “i love you all and appreciate u soooooo much. u have no idea how much u’ve inspired me and fed my ego. but the truth is that i have to believe in me whether you all do or not. and thats what i’m lookin for. that belief in myself. me. I. i love us. thanks for being here for me and riding with me on this journey. let us continue.”

She returned to Twitter today after her worried followers expressed their concern. “i’m fine everyone. just switching things up a bit till i get it right,” she assured them. “now kanye… thats who we should have a prayer circle for. lolol.”

The R&B powerhouse’s critically-acclaimed second album was released at the end of November, bowing at No. 17 on the Billboard 200 with 57,000 copies in its first week.

Jazmine Sullivan suited up for Billboard’s 5th Annual Women in Music Awards. The R&B powerhouse, whose sophomore album Love Me Back was released this week, received the Rising Star Award following last year’s honoree Lady Gaga.

“I admire Lady Gaga, so to be honored in a category that she was once in is such a rewarding feeling,” the Grammy-nominated singer told Billboard.com. “When I heard the news, I was so happy. I feel honored to be chosen as this year’s Rising Star.”

Fergie was also on hand as she was presented with Billboard’s Woman of the Year Award at the event held at New York’s Pierre Hotel on Thursday (Dec. 2).

The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul has been in and out of the lab cooking up her 10th studio album. “Yes, we’re working on one,” she tells the New York Daily News, revealing that some of the guests may include Jay-Z, Swizz Beatz, Johnta Austin, and Ryan Leslie. “I don’t know what we’re calling it. I’m not rushing to come out with it. When it is done, it is done.”

Jazmine Sullivan may have thought that bustin’ windows was the sweetest revenge on her debut album Fearless, but she’s putting down the crowbar on her sophomore album Love Me Back, due this fall.

While backstage at KMEL Summer Jam in Oakland, Calif., this past weekend, Sullivan told radio personality D.C. that’s she’s done fighting.

“I was a little angry on the first album, busting windows and things,” said the 23-year-old songstress. “I’m not quite as angry on this one. You see a different side of relationships, the more loving side.”

Though she’s given up doing damage to her man’s belongings, that doesn’t mean she’s going to let him slide. “I definitely will still get you. I got a song called ’10 Seconds,’ and I feel like I’ve grown a little bit. The first album I was just busting windows out, but this time I’mma give you 10 seconds to get away,” she laughed.

Aside from chasing down her man, the Philly native is gearing up to hit the road with Mary J. Blige, kicking off a tour on Oct. 2 in Atlanta. The video for her first single, “Holding You Down (Goin’ in Circles),” premiered last week.
