Mariah Carey is back to work. Less than six months after giving birth to her twins, the new mom returned to the studio to begin her next album. She and longtime collaborator Jermaine Dupri posted photos of themselves in the lab.
“So happy to be back in the studio with the one & only @Mr_Dupri aka Jermash!” wrote MC, while JD added, “We are back together.”
The dynamic duo last collaborated on “Oh Santa” off last year’s holiday album Merry Christmas II You. Mariah will also make an appearance on the U.S. edition of “The X Factor” as Simon Cowell’s guest.
It’s beginning to feel like 1999 again. Jermaine Dupri serves up another So So Def remix, this time to Miguel’s R&B burner “Sure Thing.” The music mogul switches up the beat, dropping his own verse and ad-libs, while Da Brat celebrates their everlasting bond, rapping, “Brat and Jermaine remain an unstoppable team, that shit ain’t changin’.” Now that’s a sure thing, indeed.
Da Brat takes a bite out of Rick Ross’ “9 Piece” on her latest remix. “I got that good shit/ Ya’ll bitches sellin’ dirt/ I got ‘em coming at me/ Ya’ll up out the woodwork/ They want that Beat Street, that straight rocksteady/ That real rap shit, Fab 5 Freddy,” raps a hungry Brat over the track off her upcoming mixtape, dropping Memorial Day weekend.
Da Brat is making up for her time away by releasing yet another remix. This time, the So So Def femcee spits over YC’s hit “Racks,” bragging about her cash flow. “If you ain’t talkin’ racks, we ain’t talkin’ back/ If you ain’t talkin’ stacks, what the fu** I’ma do with that?” she asks. Get your money up below.
Da Brat gets all the way “Turnt Up” with Jermaine Dupri and Dondria on the So So Def remix to Kanye West’s “All of the Lights.” On the brief freestyle, the Brat-Tat-Tat spits at a full lick, dropping speedy rhymes about repositioning herself in the industry. “I ain’t tryna fight this year/ I just wanna get better acquainted with the mic this year,” she proclaims. Turn the lights out below.
So So Def is back in the building. Fresh from prison, Da Brat makes her triumphant return to rap, ripping through a remix of Chris Brown’s “Look at Me Now.” “Well I’m feelin’ like a winner ’cause I’m free, I ain’t gotta walk around as an inmate/ And I been off the scene for a minute, but I’m back in effect and the fact is I’m great/ Couldn’t wait for the parole board to go and gimme a release date,” she spits. “Prepare yourself for a So So Def summer,” adds J.D.
Young Chris shows just how deep his love for his hometown runs on the Mega Mix of “Philly,” produced by Rico Love. Keeping the original verses from Eve and Black Thought intact, the former Young Gunz member reaches out to rappers from across the country, including Fat Joe, Money Malc, Fred the Godson, Diggy Simmons, Jermaine Dupri, and Game, who stop by to big up the Pennsylvania city on the eight-minute track. Listen to the motley crew show some brotherly love.
Jermaine Dupri puts his own spin on the remix to Diddy-Dirty Money’s “Loving You No More” featuring Drake. On the tinkering tune, JD delivers a lyrical takedown of his girl and all of her shortcomings. “You don’t care if I’m here or gone/ Say I treat you wrong, but the facts don’t,” he frankly states. Listen to the emotional remix of the visceral tune below.
