‘VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul’ Performances [Video]

The divas brought the house down at “VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul.” The biggest voices in music paid homage to the great cities of soul music including Chicago, Detroit, London, Memphis, and Philadelphia during the star-studded show, which aired on Monday night. Veteran divas (Chaka Khan, Mavis Staples) and divas-in-training (Jessie J, Florence Welch) dueted on Motown classics.

Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Hudson, and Kelly Clarkson kicked things off with a medley of their hits, Florence + The Machine paid tribute to Amy Winehouse with “Back to Black,” and Jessie J joined Jennifer Hudson for “Knock on Wood.”

Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Hudson, & Jessie J Dazzle at ‘VH1 Divas’

The sequins, stilettos, and sparkle were out in full force for “VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul.” Music’s most powerful voices joined together to pay homage to the great cities of soul music including Chicago, Detroit, London, Memphis, and Philadelphia at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom on Sunday night (Dec. 18).

The all-star lineup included Mary J. Blige, Kelly Clarkson, Florence + The Machine, Jennifer Hudson, Jessie J, and Jill Scott, accompanied by The Roots, with ?uestlove and Adam Blackstone serving as musical directors. 50 Cent, Common, and Queen Latifah were among the presenters.

The big-voiced trio of Jennifer Hudson, Mary J. Blige, and Kelly Clarkson kicked things off with a medley of “You Keep Me Hanging On,” “Spotlight,” “Real Love,” and “Since U Been Gone.” Mavis Staples, Erykah Badu, and Chaka Khan brought the house down with “I’ll Take You There” and Khan and Blige dueted on “Ain’t Nobody.”

Following an introduction from Nas, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings and Wanda Jackson paid tribute to the late Amy Winehouse with “You Know I’m No Good.”

“She was the most incredible artist,” said Florence Welch of Florence + The Machine, who performed Winehouse’s “Back to Black” during the taping. “I feel kind of overwhelmed.”

“VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul” airs tonight at 9 p.m. on VH1.

Jessie J tears back the wrapping paper in a new spot for Glacéau vitaminwater. The British pop star, who serves as the company’s 2012 Olympic Games ambassador, has launched a new Facebook game, Guess Jessie’s Pressie.

Starting tomorrow, fans will be able to visit the vitaminwater Facebook page to play the festive game, which features seven short videos screened across seven days. A new prize will be revealed each day.

“I am so excited, not just about Christmas but also about the London 2012 Olympic games and I know you are too,” said Jessie. “So come on Britain! This is your chance to Guess my Pressie and land yourself a once in a lifetime prize.”

Those who can correctly guess what’s hiding under the wrapping will have a shot at winning the grand prize, tickets to the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
