Kanye West graces the August cover of GQ. In his first interview since his marriage to Kim Kardashian in May, the rap mogul/devoted father/fashion designer speaks about his new outlook on life, what he’s learned from his wife, and redefining celebrity.

He also opens up about his upcoming album, which he hopes to drop around September, and even shares some of the lyrics from his new single “All Day.”

Kanye admits that Drake is currently the most popular man in rap, but he’s considering taking back his spot. “It’s a real question for me. Do I want to?” he said.

Kanye West Graces the Cover of GQ

Kanye West

Yeezus rises on the August cover of GQ, on newsstands now. The new husband, devoted father, and style god strikes a bold pose, wearing a white V-neck and tan peacoat with his hands in his pockets.

The cover line reads: “Kanye West tells us how to grow up, survive a wedding, stay outrageous, and dress like a god.”

The 37-year-old rapper is reportedly in Puerto Vallarta recording his album, while his wife Kim Kardashian and one-year-old daughter North West vacation at Joe Francis’ beachside villa in Punta Mita.

“His whole crew is out there recording,” a source tells E! News. “His whole music studio was shipped out. It’s been amazing.”

North has been in the studio with him half the time. “She loves music and is obsessed with hearing it in the studio,” adds the source.

The G.O.O.D. Music mogul was recently added to the “Budweiser Made in America” Festival in L.A. He will also headline the Philadelphia concert on August 30.

19-Year-Old Kanye West Raps in Throwback Video

Kanye West

Kanye West was always ahead of his time, and we’ve got the video to prove it. Before he was selling out arenas across the globe and designing sneakers for Nike and adidas, the then-unknown Chicago rapper, who was only 19 at the time, freestyled at the opening of Fat Beats 6th Avenue store in August 1996.

DJ Eclipse, the former manager of Fat Beats’ New York store, shared the 18-year-old footage, which shows a skinny Kanye sporting an oversized Polo and spitting some aggressive bars.

“My style is too cold / Always forever like Luther / But it ain’t original because I stole it from the future,” raps the future 21-time Grammy winner.

Rap-Up TV: Common Makes ‘Majik’ with Jhene Aiko, Talks Kanye’s ‘Royal’ Wedding

Twenty years after the release of his critically-acclaimed album Resurrection, Common reunites with No I.D. on Nobody’s Smiling. During his trip to L.A. this week, the hip-hop veteran sat down with Rap-Up TV to discuss his 10th album, which arrives July 22 via Def Jam.

The concept-driven project, inspired by the violence in Chicago, includes appearances from Cocaine 80s, Elijah Blake, Vince Staples, and Jhené Aiko, who is featured on the No I.D.-produced “Blak Majik.”

“Jhené Aiko is an artist that I truly respect,” said Common. “I think she has a unique voice in music, in culture. When I say unique voice, not only is it her singing voice, but her perspective, who she is, what she offers to the world is something that’s very, very special. It’s a soul to it. It’s a spirit to it.”

“I wanted to team up with her and do a song that was fresh. I called it ‘Blak Majik’ because I say we make something out of nothing,” he explained. “It’s also a feel-good, fun song, but it’s hard, it’s rough. It’s something special about that song too.”

He also worked with his G.O.O.D. Music brother Big Sean on “Diamonds,” for which a video was recently shot in L.A. “‘Diamonds’ for me, talks about shining. You got shine no matter what. No matter what situation you gotta get to shining. I’m talking about shining for today, not waiting for tomorrow. You just gotta embody it now.”

While he didn’t work with Kanye West on this album, he did attend his fairytale wedding. “That was a very special wedding in the way that it was fun,” he said. “I had been to Italy, but never to Florence. It felt very family-oriented, very simple but beautiful, and it felt like they cared about the guests. The way we were treated, it was royal. Everything was simple and beautiful and we had the best time.”

Kanye and Kim Throw ‘Kidchella’ Bash for North West’s 1st Birthday

Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, and North West

Kanye West and Kim Kardashian spared no expense, throwing an over-the-top bash to celebrate their daughter North West’s 1st birthday. The newlywed parents turned Kourtney Kardashian’s Calabasas backyard into a mini Coachella festival dubbed “Kidchella”—complete with a Ferris wheel, teepees, and carnival goodies.

In addition to the Kardashian clan, Kim and Kanye’s friends including Ciara and her new baby Future, Tyga’s girlfriend Blac Chyna and their son King Cairo, and La La Anthony and her son Kiyan were among those in attendance.

Guests were decked out in their festival finest and received tie-dyed wristbands before roaming the grounds. Booths were set up as teepees with activities including hair-braiding and face-painting.

There was even a stage for performances. Kylie and Kendall Jenner got on the mic to sing karaoke with some help from Jaden Smith.

“#KIDCHELLA rivaled Coachella,” said Kanye’s longtime pal Virgil Abloh.

After snacking on churros and cotton candy, guests went home with their very own Yeezus T-shirts.
