Single Cover: Lupe Fiasco – ‘Mission’


Tetsuo season is upon us. Lupe Fiasco is finally ready to unleash “Mission,” the first single off his upcoming album Tetsuo and Youth. The Chicago rapper has unveiled the illustrated cover art, which was designed by artist Hebru Brantley.

“This song meant a lot to me and I’m happy to be apart of this project,” said Brantley.

Lupe has also set up a website,, with a countdown to the premiere on Monday, May 19.

His fifth album Tetsuo and Youth is due later this year. “I must say it is a thematic & utterly lyrical masterclass,” said Lupe of the follow-up to 2012′s Food & Liquor II. “A grand result of 15 years of trial & error and dedication to the craft.”

Lupe Fiasco is just getting warmed up. Following “$nitches,” “$nitches 2 (30′s),” and “DopeBoysAtAllStarWeekend,” the Chicago spitter links with TDE’s Ab-Soul on “Thorns & Horns.” The lyricists demand respect as they exchange mean verses over a sinister chopped-and-screwed beat, produced by Floss & Fame.

“Amateurs get locked out / We janitors with the mops out / Clean house / I used to wanna be the GOAT, but I’m the ox now,” raps Lupe.

New Music: Lupe Fiasco f/ Ty Dolla $ign – ‘$nitches’


Lupe Fiasco offers a taste of his upcoming album Tetsuo & Youth with “$nitches,” his collaboration with Ty Dolla $ign.

The Chicago MC puts the gold diggers and groupies on notice (“Keep an open mind, but I ain’t messin’ with the doorstops”) on the radio-friendly record, which samples OutKast’s “Rosa Parks.”

Ty, who also produced the track, lays down the smooth hook. “I ain’t trickin’ on you,” he sings over the snapping beat.

Lupe Fiasco remembers the good ol’ days in the ’90s-inspired video for “Old School Love” featuring Ed Sheeran. As he watches the television and hears about Chicago’s record murder rate, he reflects on simpler times growing up in the Chi, when kids would play basketball and jump rope on the street. The newly Grammy-nominated Ed Sheeran joins him on the couch in the retro clip.

The song is the first single off Lupe’s upcoming album Tetsuo and Youth, due next year.
