Lupe Fiasco takes the spotlight on the tracklisting for his fourth album Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1. Due September 25, the follow-up to his 2006 LP features 17 tracks, with appearances from Bilal, Casey Benjamin, Poo Bear, Jason Evigian, and Guy Sebastian on “Battle Scars,” for which he recently released a video.

The Chi-town MC made the controversial record without any outside pressure. “It’s the Lupe Fiasco that I want to be without the industry constraints, without trying to please the hardcore fans or the new fans,” he told Fuse. “It’s just me, what I would do for myself, if nobody ever heard it. This is the kind of music that I would make. It’s a masterpiece. It’s real good. It’s real fu**ing good.”

He has already released the singles “Around My Way (Freedom Ain’t Free),” “Bitch Bad,” and “Lamborghini Angels.”

Lupe Fiasco has been embroiled in controversy with his own music, but he fights a different war on his latest track. The Chicago MC marches to the front lines of love on “Battle Scars,” his collaboration with Australian singer Guy Sebastian. Lupe ignites his fiery rhymes as he performs on top of a car amidst destruction and chaos. Following its online premiere on Wednesday, Lupe Fiasco stopped by “106 & Park” to debut the controversial video for “Bitch Bad.”

The rap rebel was surprised that BET would allow the Gil Green-directed clip to air on the network. “It’s so against the grain and that’s what I’m good at,” a dreadlocked Lupe told Rocsi. “I applaud [BET's] bravery.”

His album Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1 is bound to get people talking. “It’s just me telling the story of America,” he explained. “If you just tell the story of America plain, it’s controversial enough. But it’s definitely not coming from a place where I want to make some people mad. I just want to give people my point of view and start a conversation.”

Despite his notoriety, he doesn’t consider himself controversial. “I never call myself controversial. The media kinda put that tag on me,” said the Chicago MC. “The subject matter that I choose to talk about can rub some people the wrong way, but you need to have a Lupe Fiasco to stir things up every now and then.”

Lupe plans to drop more singles prior to the album’s release on September 25.

Lupe Fiasco sparks a conversation with the powerful video for “Bitch Bad,” the latest single off his upcoming album Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1, due September 25. The outspoken MC contemplates the long-term psychological effects of the word “bitch,” by weaving together a narrative of a young boy and girl who are both exposed to the degrading language.

“Whether right or wrong, some things need to be said in order to start a conversation … that’s all I try to do with my music,” Lupe told MTV News.

He dedicates the Gil Green-directed clip to Paul Robeson and the “many black actors who endured the humiliating process of blackface in America.”

Lupe Fiasco is bound to stir up more controversy with his next single. The Chicago MC has unveiled the black-and-white artwork for “Lamborghini Angels.” The follow-up to the Pete Rock and CL Smooth-sampled “Around My Way (Freedom Ain’t Free)” and “Bitch Bad” will be available August 14 on iTunes. It contains brash lyrics that may offend some people.
