New Music: Marsha Ambrosius – ‘Butterflies (Remix)’

Marsha Ambrosius

Marsha Ambrosius reclaims her track “Butterflies” for her solo debut Late Nights & Early Mornings (March 1). The original version, which she penned for Michael Jackson in 2001 and was later rerecorded for her group Floetry’s 2002 album Floetic, gets a grown ‘n’ sexy remake where horns blurt alongside popping instrumentation and Marsha delivers a vocally-layered performance.

“Getting the opportunity to work with the best who ever did it, on planet Earth, period, is just a blessing,” Marsha told Rap-Up.com of the late King of Pop, who jokingly called her a “singing heifer.” “I knew him as a father, as a friend. It was me paying my respects back to him and just thanking him for doing something for me so early in my career I never expected.”

Catch butterflies again by checking the newly-configured tune.

Tracklisting: Marsha Ambrosius – ‘Late Nights & Early Mornings’

Late Nights & Early Mornings

Following the release of her stirring video for “Far Away,” Marsha Ambrosius is ready to unleash her debut solo album Late Nights & Early Mornings. The former Floetry member has set a March 1 release for the effort, boasting collaborations with Alicia Keys, Dre & Vidal, Just Blaze, and more.

The 12-track set, inspired by Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder, has already spawned the single “Hope She Cheats on You (With a Basketball Player),” and will show a more aggressive side to the soulstress.

“My pen and my point of view has a certain aggression to it because I’ve listened to a lot of male-influenced music, which I think makes me one of the most outspoken writers out here,” said Marsha. “Sometimes as a woman you don’t wanna say what’s on your mind for fear of being judged. But why wouldn’t I say it like that if that’s how I felt?”

New Music: Marsha Ambrosius – ‘The Ballad of Hope She Cheats: Sex So Good’

Marsha Ambrosius

Marsha Ambrosius slows it down on the ballad version of her single “I Hope She Cheats on You (With a Basketball Player),” re-titled “The Ballad of Hope She Cheats: Sex So Good.” The tune transforms from a shiny mid-tempo jam into a midnight soul number, where the former Floetry member moans over languid live instrumentation.

“When I initially wrote the song, I heard it really mellow and jazzed out, similar to how I 1st performed it at SOB’s :) and this is exactly what I did :),” wrote Marsha on her blog. “I created this for those who don’t know I write and produce :) for those who want a glimpse of who I am.”

Get in the mood below, and look out for her debut album Late Nights & Early Mornings dropping in early 2011.
