In honor of his birthday, Melanie Fiona pays homage to the Notorious B.I.G. by covering “One More Chance / Stay with Me Remix.” The Canadian songbird sits in front of her computer and performs the 1995 classic in the third installment of her cover series. As the sun rises, she throws on her Brooklyn Nets cap and raps the lyrics, while belting out the Faith Evans hook.

“R.I.P. BIG… Here’s to celebrating your life,” tweeted Melanie, who has covered Drake’s “Started From the Bottom” and Wale’s “Bad” in the past.

Melanie Fiona Expresses Gratitude to Lauryn Hill in Open Letter

Lauryn Hill has influenced many of today’s artists, but few have been more inspired by her than Melanie Fiona. After meeting her after her show in Brooklyn on Tuesday night, the Canadian singer was compelled to write an open letter to the Fugees frontwoman.

She expressed her gratitude and appreciation, while crediting Hill for breaking down barriers and making her the artist she is today.

“My life will never be the same… It will be better… For what I received last night in energy and inspiration will most definitely make me a better artist and woman in this industry,” wrote a humbled Melanie.

Bridget Kelly Celebrates Birthday with Jay-Z, Rita Ora, and Melanie Fiona

The Roc was in the building as Bridget Kelly celebrated her 27th birthday at the 40/40 Club in New York City last night. Friends and family came out to party with the “Special Delivery” singer, including her boss Jay-Z, mother, and fellow Roc girls Rita Ora and Melanie Fiona. Trey Songz, Adrienne Bailon, Timbaland, and Ne-Yo sipped D’USSE cocktails and snacked on red velvet cake.

“Love my boo ritaora too much fun last night,” tweeted Bridget, who posed for a photo with her labelmate.

Bridget’s debut is due later this year featuring Shea Taylor, Jerry Wonda, Ne-Yo, The-Dream, and Kendrick Lamar, who appears on the single “Street Dreamin.’”

Melanie Fiona Covers Whitney Houston’s ‘One Moment in Time’

Chrisette Michele paid homage to the late, great Whitney Houston with her cover of “I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me).” Now Melanie Fiona salutes the legendary diva as part of Billboard’s week-long tribute to Houston.

The Canadian songstress performs an acoustic cover of “One Moment in Time,” which Houston recorded for the 1988 Summer Olympics.

“I feel like it is one of the greatest songs that she has and that has kind of ever been written,” said Melanie. “It’s almost like the forgotten gem of her catalog. … And I feel like this record is just so powerful and has such a positive message. I think that people need to hear that and be reminded of that.”

In the powerful narrative, an emotional Melanie cries, laughs, fights, and flirts with her hunky co-star Omari Hardwick (For Colored Girls) while belting out the soulful ballad, produced by Jack Splash.

“It’s very raw and it’s acting, and it’s very, very truthful,” she told Rap-Up TV. “It was really a meeting of the minds and talents and artistry to bring this to you guys. We wanted to tell a powerful, powerful story.”

Melanie Fiona Duets with Michael Bolton on ‘Leno’

Melanie Fiona has been making the television rounds with Michael Bolton to promote his upcoming Motown covers album Ain’t No Mountain High Enough: Tribute Hitsville. Following their appearances on “Today” and “Katie” last month, the two stopped by “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” on Monday to perform a cover of Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell’s ’60s classic “Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing.”

Due February 26, Bolton’s album also features a duet with Kelly Rowland on “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.”

Melanie will headline a show in San Francisco on Valentine’s Day and has been working on her third album. “I really feel like it’s going to be the strongest body of work,” she told Rap-Up TV on set of the video for her Grammy-nominated single “Wrong Side of a Love Song.”
