Melanie Fiona Reveals Release Date, Cover Art for ‘The MF Life’

Melanie Fiona answered her fans’ prayers by unveiling the release date and cover art for her oft-delayed sophomore album The MF Life. The follow-up to 2009’s The Bridge will drop March 27 March 20, she announced via Twitter. It was pushed up (gasp!) from its May release. The Rico Love-produced single “4 AM” debuted at No. 97 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week.

Melanie Fiona Pays Tribute to Michael Jackson at Handprint Ceremony [Video]

Melanie Fiona kept the memory of Michael Jackson alive by lending her voice to the hand and footprint ceremony honoring the late pop legend at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood on Thursday (Jan. 26).

The Canadian songbird performed an acoustic rendition of the Jackson 5 classic “I’ll Be There,” as the Jackson family, including mother Katherine and Michael’s children Prince, Paris, and Blanket, looked on. Quincy Jones, Smokey Robinson, Chris Tucker, and Justin Bieber also paid tribute to the King of Pop.

“I am at a complete loss of words. Overwhelmed and completely honoured. Cheers to the King of Pop #MichaelJackson xo,” tweeted Melanie, who will release her sophomore album The MF Life on May 8.

Jill Scott, Mary J. Blige, & Erykah Badu Celebrate Women at ‘Black Girls Rock!’

Music’s biggest voices saluted black women in business, politics, entertainment, sports, and community service at BET’s second annual “Black Girls Rock!” event, honoring Angela Davis, Shirley Caesar, Taraji P. Henson, Tatyana Ali, and more.

Erykah Badu kicked off the festivities by beat-boxing and adding her own instrumentation to “Appletree.” Melanie Fiona showed off her powerful pipes with her new song “This Time,” newcomer Elle Varner stepped into the spotlight with “Only Wanna Give It to You,” and Estelle said “Thank You” with her Akon-penned single.

Soul diva Jill Scott delivered a spoken word performance of “Womanifesto” and empowered her fellow ladies with “Hate on Me.” And Mary J. Blige closed out the inspiring evening with “Just Fine” and “My Life.”

But what may seem like a harmless boys’ night out turns dangerous when he is tempted by another woman, who slips something in his drink before luring him to the bedroom. Meanwhile, an unsuspecting Melanie patiently waits at home for his return.
