Lil’ Kim, Missy Elliott, & Da Brat Bring ‘Ladies Night’ to Soul Train Awards

It was ladies’ night at the Soul Train Awards 2014. Lil’ Kim, Missy Elliott, and Da Brat hit the stage for the first time in 17 years to perform their 1996 platinum single “Not Tonight (Remix)” during Sunday’s pre-taped show.

Eric Benét kicked things off by singing the original song before Kim emerged with her female dancers. They paid tribute to the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes before Da Brat bumrushed the stage followed by Missy, who was greeted with roaring cheers from the crowd.

During the finale, they were joined on stage by their fellow females including Total, MC Lyte, The Lady of Rage, and Yo-Yo. Angie Martinez, who was featured on the song, was M.I.A.

The performance was part of a tribute to Kool & the Gang, whose 1979 song “Ladies’ Night” they sampled.

Chris Brown Wins Big, Lil’ Kim, Missy Elliott, & Da Brat Reunite at Soul Train Awards 2014

The Soul Train Awards 2014 rolled through Las Vegas’ Orleans Arena on Friday night. Hosted by Wendy Williams, the show celebrated R&B’s past and present stars with show-stopping medleys, reunions, and some all-star tributes.

Chris Brown, who led with seven nominations, kicked off the show with a dance-heavy medley of his hits including “Yo (Excuse Me Miss),” “New Flame,” and “Loyal.” The R&B superstar also went home with the awards for Best Collaboration and Best Hip-Hop Song of the Year for “Loyal.”

’90s R&B icons Jodeci reunited for the first time in years to perform a nostalgic medley of fan favorites including “Freek’n You,” “Come & Talk to Me,” “Stay,” and “Forever My Lady.” The North Carolina quartet also debuted its new single “Nobody Wins” with help from B.o.B.

Kool & the Gang was honored with the Legend Award and received a star-studded tribute from Tamar Braxton, Joe, Elle Varner, MC Lyte, Doug E. Fresh, Tank, and Ma$e, who performed his Kool & The Gang-sampled hit “Feels So Good” with Total’s Kima Raynor and Pamela Long.

Lil’ Kim, Missy Elliott, and Da Brat had the crowd on its feet as they closed out the evening with a performance of their 1996 platinum single “Not Tonight (Remix)” in tribute to Kool & the Gang.

Other performers included Tinashe, who served up her hit “2 On,” and Nico & Vinz, who went home with Best New Artist. Tamar Braxton hosted the red carpet pre-show.

The Soul Train Awards will air on Centric and BET on November 30 at 8 p.m.

The stage is set for ladies night. Missy Elliott, Lil’ Kim, and Da Brat landed in Las Vegas to rehearse for tonight’s Soul Train Awards 2014. The rap trio hit the stage for the first time in 17 years to perform their 1996 platinum single, “Not Tonight (Remix).” The last and only time they performed the song was at the 1997 MTV Video Music Awards.

“I’m just happy to see my friends again,” Kim told Hip Hollywood. “Missy Elliott is my sister. She’s a longterm friend and she’s someone that I love dearly.”

The performance is part of a tribute to Kool & the Gang, whose 1979 song “Ladies’ Night” they sampled. The track off the soundtrack to Nothing to Lose also features the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes and Angie Martinez, who will not be joining the trio.

The Soul Train Awards, which are also set to feature performances from Chris Brown, Jodeci, Ma$e, and Tamar Braxton, tape tonight and will air on Centric and BET on November 30 at 8 p.m.

Missy Elliott Performs at Alexander Wang x H&M Collection Launch

Alexander Wang celebrated the launch of his H&M collection with a star-studded event at the Fort Washington Avenue Armory in New York City last night. With Diplo on the turntables, the black-clad crowd including Solange and Mary J. Blige grabbed front row seats as the designer unveiled his sportswear-themed collection, which hits stores on November 6.

The runway show capped off with a thrilling performance from Missy Elliott, who brought the crowd to its feet with classics including “Get Ur Freak On,” “Work It,” and “Lose Control,” which prompted Wang to dance onstage. She was also joined by her protégée Sharaya J.

Missy met up with Solange backstage. “Me and my sis @solongeknowles had a blast 2 night great seeing ya sis always!” tweeted Missy.

Faith’s sixth album Incomparable is due November 25 featuring contributions from Jazmine Sullivan and Karen Clark-Sheard.

The ladies’ anthem is the first single off Faith’s 8th studio album Incomparable, which is also set to feature contributions from Jazmine Sullivan and Karen Clark-Sheard.
