After years away from the spotlight, Missy Elliott and Timbaland are returning with new albums this summer.

The longtime collaborators will release their individual projects simultaneously in June, according to Timbaland. “Me and Missy are both coming with our albums at the same time, and it will be in June,” the super-producer revealed to MTV News.

Videos for their first singles will also roll out at the same time. “Right now, we’re preparing to get both our videos, our first singles, shot kinda at the same time,” added Timbo. “We want to do it as a movement and spontaneously.”

Missy’s last album The Cookbook was released seven years ago and Timbaland hasn’t put out a project since Shock Value II in 2009.

“I just don’t want to move too ahead of her and she don’t want to move too ahead of me,” Timbaland explained. “So we’re both doing it at the same time.”

In the interim, Missy has been featured on the remix to Katy Perry’s No. 1 single “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” and will appear in the video for J. Cole’s next single “Nobody’s Perfect.”

After making major moves in 2011, J. Cole shows no signs of slowing down. According to Video Static, the breakout star will shoot a video for “Nobody’s Perfect,” the third single off his Roc Nation debut Cole World: The Sideline Story. The North Carolina native is teaming with director Colin Tilley (Chris Brown, Diddy-Dirty Money) for the clip, which will co-star his collaborator Missy Elliott.

Cole reflects on how his life has changed on “Nobody’s Perfect,” rapping about traveling to Barbados, partying with Jay-Z, and hanging out with chicks like Rihanna. “Remember when I used to be stressed over Diwanna/ Now a ni**a only texting, get stressed over Rihannas,” he rhymes on one of the standout cuts off his Roc Nation debut Cole World: The Sideline Story.

Missy Elliott is slowly making her return to music. With features on Katy Perry’s No. 1 single “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” and J. Cole’s debut Cole World, the hip-hop vet joins former Disney star Demi Lovato on the speaker-rattling “All Night Long,” a cut off her third album Unbroken (Sept. 20). Missy celebrates the weekend on the party anthem produced by her longtime collaborator Timbaland.

“It’s about staying up all night long and singing it to the boy that you like, and it’s flirty and fun and it’s not too grown-up, but it’s grown-up enough,” the 19-year-old singer told MTV News.

Aaliyah was dear to many in the music industry, but she shared a special connection with her producer, mentor, and close friend Missy Elliott. On the 10-year anniversary of her death, the rapper remembers the late singer who she affectionately called Baby Girl. She celebrates her talent and recalls fond memories of joking and making music together in a touching tribute via CNN.

Today is the 10 year anniversary of Aaliyah’s passing and I’m sitting here reminiscing and playing music, thinking of the times we spent together, working, laughing, singing, dancing, cutting up. But really, it’s not all that different from any other day because I do think about her every day.

Not on purpose, but she is my friend and that’s just how I do. I’ve told the same stories for 9 years—how we met, how me and Tim were scared but Aaliyah was so welcoming and had this smile and way about her that put us at ease, that she liked to take chances and we were able to just be who we were and make good records together.

She loved playing jokes and that’s another part of her personality that made it fun to be around her. As a talent, I think she’s missed because she was unique and a true triple threat. She could sing, dance, and her acting was starting to take off.

I’m glad for the memories I have and the time we got to spend together, but I miss my friend.

Missy Elliott keeps the party going on the rambunctious remix to “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.),” the fifth single off Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream album. “I ain’t no stripper, but I work the pole,” raps a tipsy Missy on her short intro verse. Missy Elliott has been in the lab working on her much-anticipated album Block Party, but she’s about to make a brief return to the spotlight. The trailblazing femcee is set to appear on the official remix to “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.),” the fifth single from Katy Perry’s chart-topping album Teenage Dream.

According to Billboard, the remix will hit radio, the Internet, and digital retailers on Monday, August 8.

The pop starlet is hoping the Missy version will propel “Friday” to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, tying Michael Jackson’s record for most Hot 100 No. 1s from a single album. Her previous records “California Gurls,” “Teenage Dream,” “E.T.,” and “Firework” all went to No. 1.

Missy Elliott reminds us just how much we’ve missed her by popping up on a new song. The trailblazing femcee, who is still at work on her long-awaited album Block Party, returns for a moment to wind to the dancehall sounds of Jamaican artist Spice on her summertime single “Fun.”

The Wash Belly riddim was presented to Missy’s camp and she loved it enough to spit some bars. “Missy really ‘tun up’ the dancehall riddim, she did great,” Spice told the Jamaica Observer.

Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott stepped into the spotlight on VH1’s “Behind the Music.” The hour-long special documented how Melissa Arnette Elliott changed the face of music with commentary from her family and friends including Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Ciara, Timbaland, Magoo, and MC Lyte.

“I thought I had something that was unique,” said the hip-hop innovator. “I wanted to break down all barriers and be a risk taker.”

She opened up about being sexually abused by her cousin, witnessing her father try to kill her mother, losing her friend and collaborator Aaliyah, and her more recent battle with Graves’ Disease, plus reflected on happier times when she met Timbaland, received calls from Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, and Janet Jackson in the same month, and bought her mom a house.

Missy is now looking to the future and is working on her new album Block Party with Timbaland. “I was telling somebody that we have been so far left in trying to stay creative and being different; we had to go back to the drawing board and just do it the way we loved to do it, and not be concerned with trying to outdo ourselves,” she recently told the Los Angeles Times.
