Nelly Furtado ‘Stoked’ to Meet Tyler, the Creator

Tyler, the Creator, Sway, and Nelly Furtado

There are not many people who can make Nelly Furtado shy. But the Canadian songstress was starstruck upon meeting Tyler, the Creator. During a visit to MTV, she was introduced to the Odd Future frontman.

“@fucktyler The best moment of yesterday was meeting you after shyly hiding from you behind the flower vase #stoked,” tweeted Nelly, whose single “Big Hoops (Bigger the Better)” was inspired by the L.A. collective.

“The state of mind I was in, I was actually listening to a lot of different music a few weeks before,” she told MTV News. “I think I was listening to Odd Future or something, and I was inspired by how dark it sounded and how heavy and visceral and how it made your blood feel things. And I just thought, ‘Wow—that’s really missing in music. We’re missing that rawness, that energy and that power.’”

Nelly’s album The Spirit Indestructible is due September 18. Watch her debut the Rodney Jerkins-produced “Parking Lot” during her acoustic show in L.A.
