Behind the Video: Nelly Furtado – ‘Big Hoops (Bigger the Better)’ [Part 1]

Nelly Furtado was back in front of the lens with director X (“Promiscuous”) shooting the video for “Big Hoops (Bigger the Better),” the first single off her album The Spirit Indestructible, due June 19.

In the first part of the behind-the-scenes video, the Canadian star takes us on set of the L.A. shoot as she learns some new moves from world champion Native American hoop dancer Tony Duncan. She also searches for the perfect look with her stylist.

“I bet you never heard something like that,” sings Nelly, who has also collaborated with Nas, Salaam Remi, and Tiesto on the follow-up to 2006’s multi-platinum Loose.

Nelly Furtado does it way big on “Big Hoops (Bigger the Better),” the first single off her fourth English album The Spirit Indestructible, due June 19. The Canadian chanteuse returns to a more urban sound on the beatboxing production by Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins.

“Bet you never heard something like that,” sings Nelly, who also collaborated with Nas, Salaam Remi, and Tiesto on the follow-up to 2006’s multi-platinum album Loose.

Nelly Furtado Stands Tall on Set of ‘Big Hoops’ Video

Nelly Furtado is making a BIG comeback! The Grammy-winning songstress teetered on stilts while shooting the super-sized video for “Big Hoops (Bigger the Better)” in downtown Los Angeles on Thursday (April 5). The song, produced by Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, is the lead single off her first English album in six years, The Spirit Indestructible, due June 19.

“The higher the better!” tweeted Nelly as she wobbled her way down the sidewalk while onlookers gazed up.

World champion hoop dancer Tony Duncan collaborated with her on what’s sure to be a visual spectacle.

K’naan and Nelly Furtado Perform on ‘Ellen’

After hitting up “The Late Show with David Letterman” last month, K’naan linked up with fellow Canadian Nelly Furtado on Thursday’s “Ellen DeGeneres Show” to perform their triumphant collaboration “Is Anybody Out There?” off K’naan’s EP More Beautiful Than Silence.

The Somalian rapper’s third album Country, God or The Girl is due May 1 featuring Bono, Nas, and Keith Richards, while Nelly is readying T.S.I., the follow-up to her 2006 English-language album Loose, for the summer.
