Nick Cannon is going to great lengths to promote his new album White People Party Music, due April 1. The 33-year-old comedian has shared photos and video of himself in whiteface, sporting a wig, new wardrobe, makeup, and even a frat boy accent to match.
He took to the streets of L.A. to debut his white persona, which he dubbed “Connor Smallnut.”
“It’s official… I’m White!!! #WHITEPEOPLEPARTYMUSIC #Wppm in stores April 1st!!!!!!Dude Go Get It!!!Join The Party!!!! #GoodCredit #DogKissing #BeerPong #FarmersMarkets #FistPumping #CreamCheeseEating #RacialDraft “Bro I got drafted!!” said the “America’s Got Talent” host.
He was inspired by Robert Downey Jr.’s blackface character from Tropic Thunder. “Shout out to @RobertDowneyJr This is one of my favorite characters of all time! Hilarious!!! There is a big difference between Humor and Hatred,” said Nick.
But not everyone was laughing at his joke. “Not cool. Does not make it ok for u to do a white face just like it’s not ok to do a black face. Come on man,” wrote one Instagram commenter, while others jumped to his defense.
“Man robert Downey Jr did black face in tropic tunder and it was great!!!! So please stop the hate! Comedy is comedy as long as its done out of humor not hate.”
Nick responded to all the controversy, tweeting, “Damn I didn’t know it was going to be this hard being White! … I’m exhausted with all this ‘privilege’ LOL #WhitePeopleProblems.”
