Q-Tip and Solange at the Nike Sportswear at 21 Mercer Street Block Party in New York City’s SoHo on Thursday. The rapper and singer collaborated on a remix to Solange’s “Sandcastle Disco.”

Q-Tip has released a dope cover for his equally dope first single “Gettin’ Up” off The Renaissance. Read our preview of the album here. The song will be released as a digital single on August 26th.

Although the young MCs keep sprouting up on the scene with catchy dances and addictive (often annoying) hooks, we respect the fact that some of the pioneers never lost their shine. Q-Tip, for one, has held his style, his swag, and his skills constant since he was one powerful part of A Tribe Called Quest. He drifted in and out of the shadows, got mixed responses on his first solo effort, but is back with a fresh sound.

Q-Tip will release his long-awaited second solo album The Renaissance this September on Universal Motown. The follow-up to 1999′s Amplified is a mix of summer jams, club bangers, and introspective songs, which combines live instrumentation and samples.

Norah Jones is featured on “Life is Better” and Barack Obama’s voice can be heard on the intro track “Shaka.” The A Tribe Called Quest front man also collaborated with D’Angelo and Raphael Saadiq.
