Rap-Up TV: Ty Dolla $ign Taps Kendrick Lamar, R. Kelly for New Album

Ty Dolla $ign has had an incredible year, and he’s looking forward to an even bigger 2015. The “Paranoid” hitmaker is planning a March/April release for his long-awaited debut Free TC. But the project, named after his brother who is behind bars, represents more than just an album.

“It’s for a purpose,” the Taylor Gang member told Rap-Up TV. “He’s locked up for something that he didn’t do. It’s many people out here that get injustice, as you’ve seen Mike Brown, Trayvon Martin, everything that’s happening on the news right now. It has a purpose. It’s gonna be the biggest album of 2015.”

The Diplo and DJ Dahi-produced first single “Stand For” is already gaining spins, and he’s assembled an all-star roster of talent including Jagged Edge, YG, Wiz Khalifa, and R. Kelly, who appears on a record called “Actress.”

“It’s definitely a jam and I can’t wait to see what it does out here in these streets,” he said.

His fellow Cali native Kendrick Lamar also guests on the aptly-titled “L.A.” “It’s like an anthem for L.A. It’s gonna be crazy,” he said. “Kendrick is the homie and I hope I can get on his new project.”

Following the album’s release, Ty plans to embark on his “Free TC” tour.

Plus, find out how he plans to spend Christmas and his New Year’s resolution.

New Music: R. Kelly f/ Shawnna – ‘Back Up’

R. Kelly and Shawnna

It’s the return of the R. R. Kelly teams with DTP’s former first lady Shawnna on “Back Up,” which she released on her SoundCloud account. On the triumphant get-money anthem, Kellz pops champagne, stacks his paper like an armored truck, and makes reference to January (Is there more Kellz coming in 2015?).

He will cap off the year with a holiday concert in Beverly Hills on December 27 and another show at Las Vegas’ House of Blues on December 30.

Hear him ball out below.

Rick Ross and R. Kelly

There’s no shortage of extravagance in the video for “Keep Doin’ That (Rich Bitch),” the first single off Rick Ross’ seventh album Hood Billionaire. The Bawse and R. Kelly take over a mansion in Atlanta and flex their wealth and women. They rock furs, smoke cigars, and make it rain as Black Bottle Girls shake their asses and strut around in barely-there outfits.

Supermodel Jessica White plays Rozay’s “rich chick,” while T.I., Jeezy, Jermaine Dupri, and DJ Khaled make cameos in the opulent clip.

Hood Billionaire drops November 24 featuring Jay Z and the DJ Toomp-produced “Elvis Presley Blvd” featuring Project Pat.

Chance the Rapper Brings Out R. Kelly at Lollapalooza

Chance the Rapper and R. Kelly

After a weekend of performances from Eminem, Nas, and Iggy Azalea, Chance the Rapper closed out Lollapalooza on Sunday night. Despite the wet weather, fans piled into Chicago’s Grant Park to watch the 21-year-old MC thrill his hometown crowd during his much-anticipated set, which was streamed live. He hit the stage around 8:30 p.m., attracting one of the largest audiences of the weekend.

“Tonight isn’t performing for performance’s sake. It’s a Chicago thing. I love music and touring. But tonight it’s for Chicago,” he tweeted earlier in the day.

In addition to performing his remake of the “Arthur” theme song and Acid Rap tracks “Chain Smoker” and “Everything’s Good,” he taught the audience how to do the juke slide and brought out Vic Mensa for “Cocoa Butter Kisses.” But the most-talked-about moment of the night was when Chicago’s own R. Kelly joined him onstage.

With Chance by his side, Kellz served up his classics including “The World’s Greatest,” “Bump n’ Grind,” and “Ignition (Remix),” and guested on Chance’s “Acid Rain,” much to the delight of the Chicago rapper.

Watch Chance own the night.
