New Music: Coldplay f/ Rihanna – ‘Princess of China’

Rihanna and Coldplay

Rihanna rocks with Coldplay on the enchanting “Princess of China,” a cut off the British band’s new album Mylo Xyloto, in stores October 24.

The pop starlet imagines a fairy tale ending to a romance while dueting with frontman Chris Martin on the synth-heavy production. “I could have been a princess, you’d be a king/ Could have had a castle and worn a ring, but no, you let me go,” sings a disappointed RiRi before chanting the lingering hook.

“We had this song called ‘Princess of China’ about two years ago that I always was secretly wanting to offer to Rihanna to sing,” Martin Rolling Stone. “The sweep of the album came together and this song really fit as a sort of damaged loved song, and so after about six months of not feeling brave enough, we finally made contact with her and asked if she’d sing on it.”

Martin, who proposed the collaboration to Rihanna at his New Year’s show in Las Vegas, calls her vocals “by far the best bit of singing on the album.”

Behind the Video: Rihanna – ‘We Found Love’

Rihanna

Rihanna gets dirty while shooting the video for “We Found Love,” the first single from her upcoming album Talk That Talk, in Northern Ireland. The pop goddess dances in the mud and makes out with her co-star, British boxer-model Dudley O’Shaughnessy, in a vintage car in the behind-the-scenes footage. She filmed scenes in a fish and chips shop and open field, where she was asked to leave after removing her top.

The Melina-directed clip is expected to premiere in the coming days. “We’ve never done a video like this before. This is probably one of the deepest videos I’ve ever done,” tweeted RiRi. “Its all about love and love being like a drug, you definitely get that from this.”

Rihanna, Pharrell Guest Judge on ‘X Factor’ [Video]

Rihanna

Rihanna and Pharrell lent their expertise to the contestants on last night’s “X Factor.” RiRi joined former Def Jam executive L.A. Reid at his Hamptons home as she judged the boys, including 14-year-old Brian “Astro” Bradley, who she likened to a “mini J. Cole,” and Phillip Lomax, who charmed her with his cover of “Don’t Stop the Music.”

“I’m definitely looking for individuality, star potential. Just have fun, knock it out the park, and good luck,” the pop superstar told the aspiring artists, who hope to score the $5 million recording contract prize.

Meanwhile, Pharrell was over at Paula Abdul’s house mentoring the groups. The N.E.R.D. frontman watched a country cover of “Born This Way” and acoustic version of “Only Girl (In the World)” performed by two brothers.

Nicole Scherzinger called on her friend Enrique Iglesias to critique the over-30 contestants, while Simon Cowell’s guest judge Mariah Carey was a no show because her flight was grounded due to Hurricane Irene.

Rap-Up TV: Sean Paul Gets ‘Deep’ with Kelly Rowland, Reminisces About Rihanna, & Praises Nicki Minaj

Sean Paul is taking his dancehall sound international with his new album. The Jamaican superstar spoke with Rap-Up TV about returning to music with help from Akon, Stargate, DJ Ammo, Benny Blanco, and Kelly Rowland, who appears on the cut “How Deep.” “It’s similar to ‘Got 2 Luv U’ with Alexis Jordan,” said Sean of the Stargate-produced, Ester Dean-penned tune. “It’s definitely a dancehall track.”

The Mohawk-sporting singer has collaborated with some of music’s biggest female stars including Beyoncé, Keyshia Cole, and Eve, but he considers his most memorable collaboration to be Rihanna, who he worked with on “Break It Off” from 2006’s A Girl Like Me. During her visit to Jamaica, Sean took the Barbados beauty to check out the beaches and nightlife. “We spent a couple days just chilling out. I took her to the Bob Marley museum, which is something she always wanted to do,” he shared.

Sean has been keeping up with the latest in music and names Wiz Khalifa, Roscoe Dash, and Nicki Minaj among his favorites. “The things she talks about [are] never boring to me. She’s really doing her thing. I’m proud of her,” he said of the Young Money diva. “I think she’s one of the best rappers right now.”

The fifth album from Sean Paul is due next year featuring the singles “Got 2 Luv U” and “She Doesn’t Mind.”

Rihanna Gets Naked for Esquire Magazine

Rihanna

Rihanna has officially been named the Sexiest Woman Alive by Esquire. The Barbados beauty bares it all on the cover of the magazine’s November issue, wearing nothing but a few pieces of green paper in the smoking hot photos by Russell James. Other women making the annual list include Beyoncé, Esperanza Spalding, Mila Kunis, Emma Stone, and more.

Despite her racy image, RiRi says she never deliberately tries to be sexy during her shows. “At the end of a concert, I don’t feel like I’ve been this sexy thing. Really, I don’t even think about it,” she tells the magazine.

She also opens up about Chris Brown and his career comeback. “It’s incredible to see how he pulled out of it the way he did. Even when the world seemed like it was against him, you know?” she says. “I really like the music he’s putting out. I’m a fan of his stuff. I’ve always been a fan. Obviously, I had some resentment toward him for a while, for obvious reasons. But I’ve put that behind me. It was taking up too much of my time. It was too much anger. I’m really excited to see the breakthrough he’s had in his career. I would never wish anything horrible for him. Never. I never have.”
