Robin Thicke turned up the heat when he visited “Chelsea Lately” on Monday. After downing some scotch, the ladies’ man emerged from backstage for a quirky interview. Chelsea’s “next boyfriend” spoke about his wife Paula Patton and his new lease on life after becoming a dad (“I think I’ve just blossomed into a lotus flower”) and even joked with the talk show host (“I’ve finally become a woman”). It was a soulful night on BET as the network aired its holiday special “A Very BET Christmas.” Looking elegant in a white gown, Monica took it to church with a cover of Yolanda Adams’ “O Holy Night,” Robin Thicke spiced up the classics “White Christmas” and “Merry Christmas Baby,” newcomer Elle Varner paid tribute to Donny Hathaway with “This Christmas,” Mindless Behavior unwrapped their holiday single “Christmas With My Girl,” Lloyd debuted a new Christmas tune, and the legendary Kurtis Blow closed with “Christmas Rappin’.”

A dapper Lloyd channeled Michael Jackson during “She’s All I Want for Christmas.” “It was my turn to take a stab at all the great Christmas music I grew up listening to,” he said. “It was people like Michael Jackson, like Sam Cooke who really inspired me to want to do this in the first place.”

Monica explained her choice of song. “I sang ‘O Holy Night’ which was a song that my aunt sang for many years, but I did the Yolanda Adams version because she’s somebody that’s inspired me over the years,” said Mo. “Southern girls believe in celebrating all the holidays.”

The soulful crooner, who had apparently had a few drinks, chatted with hosts Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb about his family including wife Paula Patton, son Julian (“He is the most amazing thing that ever happened to me”), and famous father Alan Thicke (“He’s the best granddaddy in the world”). Robin Thicke stopped by “106 & Park” on the eve of his fifth album release Love After War. The debonair crooner was in a great mood as he told hosts Rocsi and Terrence what his album is all about, wished his wife Paula Patton happy birthday, and revealed the key to keeping his relationship alive (“lingerie and high heels”).

“This album is about love, it’s about family, it’s about forgiveness and redemption, and it’s about the party,” explained Thicke, who performed “Love After War” and “Magic.” “You gotta keep the party going when all that goes down.”

While his wife was shooting Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, Thicke was at home taking care of their 8-month-old son Julian. “I lost my manhood,” he joked. “I gotta get my swagger back.”

He also shared what he wants his legacy to be. “I hope after I make 10, 20 albums, people will play my music 30 years from now and say white boy was putting it down right there,” he said. “I wanna be the white boy on BET for the rest of my life.”

Robin Thicke provides some words of encouragement on “Never Give Up,” an uplifting cut off his fifth album Love After War, due Tuesday. The symphonic production, which clocks in just over two-and-a-half minutes, is an anthem for anyone who’s ever been discouraged and felt like giving up.

“I said baby, it ain’t over, it’s not over, it’s never over,” sings the smooth operator on the climactic track. Better days are ahead.
