New Music: Mac Miller f/ ScHoolboy Q – ‘Melt’

In honor of the one-year anniversary of his sophomore album Watching Movies With the Sound Off, Mac Miller digs into the crates and releases “Melt,” an unheard song from the recording sessions. ScHoolboy Q joins the Pittsburgh rapper on the Pete Rock production.

“before we say goodbye to this holiday. who wants to hear one more rare track?” asked Mac.

Additionally, he has dropped the “OG version” of “The Star Room.”

Meanwhile, Q just wrapped his “Oxymoron” world tour. “90+ sHows later!!! & still goin, #oxymorontour is over,” he said.

The elusive 50 Cent and ScHoolboy Q collaboration has finally surfaced. Originally expected to appear on Q’s debut Oxymoron, the Nascent-produced “Flip on You” will now live on the deluxe edition of 50′s album Animal Ambition, in stores June 3.

“He’s the reason I’m really rapping,” Q said of 50. “But I never even had the files to that record.”

Rap-Up TV: ScHoolboy Q Talks New Albums, Weed, & Black Hippy

ScHoolboy Q has been unstoppable since topping the charts with his major label debut Oxymoron. Fresh from Germany, the TDE rapper took the stage at PowerHouse in L.A. last weekend. Moments before his set, he spoke to Rap-Up TV about his next two albums, the long-awaited Black Hippy project, and taking a brief break from weed.

While overseas, he decided to put down the blunt for a couple weeks. “It’s something I wanted to do,” he said. “I quit over there just to see if I was a slave of it. I was able to quit. ‘Cause the weed was so bad, it was like might as well not smoke it. I felt like I did right.”

While he has yet to start work on the follow-up to Oxymoron, he has already chosen his next two album titles. “I got two of my next albums titled and concepts of how I wanna attack and how I wanna put certain things to the light.”

The subject matter will be just as personal as Oxymoron. “I haven’t even talked about my mom yet. I left that out my album for other albums. I never talked about my father. Just saving certain things for different albums and concepts.”

And if you’re waiting for the Black Hippy album, you’ll have to be patient. Q, Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul, and Jay Rock have yet to start work on their highly-anticipated group project due to their busy schedules. “We ain’t do shit. Not one song,” said Q.

He helped inspire the bucket hat trend, which has been seen on everyone from Diddy to Justin Bieber. “When I made that, I wasn’t trying to do no gimmick,” he said. “I wore it because that was actually my favorite hat that I liked. And now I guess everybody’s wearing them. I wouldn’t say I was the one that did it, but I’ll take the credit if somebody wanna give it to me.”

Q is on tour until June 15 and plans to drop a new song “within the next month or two.”

J.Lo, Wiz Khalifa, YG, Trey Songz, & ScHoolboy Q Perform at PowerHouse 2014

Hip-hop and R&B’s biggest stars packed the Honda Center in Anaheim for the biggest West Coast concert of the year, PowerHouse 2014. Presented by L.A. radio station Power 106, Saturday’s star-studded lineup featured everyone from Jennifer Lopez to YG.

Sage the Gemini kicked things off with special guest Iamsu! followed by Juicy J, who turned the stage into a strip club with his turn-up anthems.

Trey Songz serenaded the ladies with his latest Trigga singles including “Na Na,” plus a cover of Chris Brown’s “Loyal” and his remix to Kid Ink’s “Show Me.”

Ahead of her performance at the Billboard Music Awards, Jennifer Lopez delivered a dance-heavy retrospective of hits including “I’m Real,” “Jenny From the Block,” and “Get Right.” She also premiered her new Diplo-produced song “Big Booty” off her upcoming album A.K.A., due June 17.

Nicki Minaj took it back to her mixtape days, performing with only a DJ, and brought out Soulja Boy for their collaboration “Yasss Bish!!!” (Watch her complete set here).

ScHoolboy Q and Isaiah Rashad repped for TDE, and Wiz Khalifa tore up the stage with “We Dem Boyz.”

With some help from DJ Mustard, YG closed out the evening with his West Coast bangers and some OG guests including Kurupt, Daz, and Warren G.

Earlier in the day, Iggy Azalea headlined the “New@2″ outdoor stage, performing her hit “Fancy,” and L.A.’s own Tinashe turned up the heat with her single “2 On.”
