Skylar Grey shows her dark side once again in the video for “Wear Me Out,” which serves as a prequel to “Final Warning.” The 27-year-old singer heads to the woods with her boyfriend, played by actor Noah Segan, who appeared in the videos for “C’mon Let Me Ride” and “Warning.”
As the campfire roars, Skylar plays the piano and makes love to her man, but mystery and mischief lies in her eyes.
Just yesterday, she released the tracklisting for her debut Don’t Look Down. Due July 9, the project features Eminem, Angel Haze, Big Sean, and Travis Barker.
It’s been a long time coming, but Skylar Grey is finally ready to drop her debut. With Eminem serving as executive producer, the Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter assembles 12 tracks, with appearances from Big Sean, Travis Barker, Angel Haze, and Slim Shady, who appears on the single “C’mon Let Me Ride.” Alex Da Kid and J.R. Rotem also lend their production skills.
“I come from a singer-songwriter world,” Grey tells Rolling Stone. “I grew up making folk music, then slowly worked into pop, and then I’ve done the hip-hop stuff. So now what I’m doing is a combination of all that. It’s singer-songwriter mixed with the hip-hop influences.”
She plans to release four songs off the album in advance of the July 9 release including “Final Warning,” “Wear Me Out,” and “Ride.”
In advance of her album’s release next month, Skylar Grey debuts yet another song. On the J.R. Rotem-produced “Wear Me Out,” the singer-songwriter showcases a more soulful side as she sings over the piano-driven record.
“I am going back to my roots as a piano-driven singer-songwriter with this song,” said Grey. “The song and the video were both inspired by events in my childhood, like sneaking out of the house to camp with my friends and flirt with boys.”
The Isaac Rentz-directed music video will premiere on June 11, while her debut Don’t Look Down is due July 9.

“This is the first time in my entire life of making music, when I made this song, where I feel like I finally figured out the way that I wanted to sound and the combination of things,” the singer-songwriter tells Rolling Stone. “I wrote the song three years ago, and it’s still my favorite. I’ve written so many songs since then, yet I always go back to this one. It got me going on the whole Skylar Grey project.”

Skylar Grey is putting the finishing touches on her debut Don’t Look Down with help from one of the biggest names in music, Eminem. In addition to appearing on the first single “C’mon Let Me Ride,” the Detroit rapper is executive producing the project.
“He showed a lot of interest and support for my project,” the Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter told Rap-Up TV at the MySpace ChapStick Sessions concert. “It kinda happened naturally where he became executive producer of the album.”
The hip-hop superstar has taken a hands-on approach. “I’ve actually been really lucky to have a lot of time with Marshall, giving me advice and feedback on all the songs, helping me pick the songs for the album,” she said. “I think he’s been pretty involved.”
Skylar shows a more playful side on her single “C’mon Let Me Ride,” but it’s not indicative of the rest of the album. “Most of the other songs are a little bit more serious. Sometimes when I’m being serious, I think it’s funny too.”
In addition to writing her own material, she has penned CeeLo Green’s new single “Only You.” “As I started writing more soulful stuff, I realized that it comes really naturally to me, so I hope to do more of it.”

“Putting out a debut album is a bit scary—I want it to be just right so I took some extra time to finish it. Eminem’s increased involvement has been such a blessing; I’m getting guidance from an artist I really admire and trust,” said Skylar, who penned Eminem’s 2010 hit “Love the Way You Lie.”
