Solange Models New Year’s Party Fashions for GQ

Solange is kicking off the new year in style. The “Losing You” singer throws a party in the pages of GQ, modeling some designer threads alongside her hipster pals Grizzly Bear, Dirty Projectors, and Devonté Hynes (Blood Orange), who she collaborated with on her EP True.

In the black-and-white images, Solange keeps it cute in a polka dot skirt by Azzedine Alaïa and Jimmy Choo heels. The fashionable bunch play their instruments as Solo rocks the mic.

Solange Performs ‘Losing You’ on ‘Late Night with Jimmy Fallon’

Solange got into the groove during her appearance on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.” Sporting big hair a la Diana Ross and an oversized green blazer with trousers, the 26-year-old singer was joined by Devonté Hynes and her band as they performed her single “Losing You” off her new EP True.

She and Dev will play a show at New York’s Bowery Ballroom tonight and again next Tuesday.

Exclusive Q&A: Solange Talks ‘True’ EP, New Label, & Next Album

In the four years since her last album Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams was released, Solange has parted ways with Interscope Records, found love with music video director Alan Ferguson, become an aunt to Blue Ivy, and recorded a brilliant new EP True. The 7-track collection, a collaboration with British composer Devonté “Dev” Hynes (Blood Orange), has been receiving rave reviews since its release last month.

Rap-Up.com caught up with Solange and Dev at a listening session for their EP in Los Angeles. In our exclusive interview, the 26-year-old singer chats about her return to music, new label, next album, and what her big sis Beyoncé thinks of her new sound.

Solange Celebrates ‘True’ EP Release in L.A.

Solange celebrated the release of her EP True at a listening session at Sonos Studio in Los Angeles on Tuesday. After playing the 7-track album, the 26-year-old singer and her collaborator Dev Hynes (Blood Orange) sat down for a Q&A moderated by Los Angeles Times writer Gerrick Kennedy.

She spoke about how the collaboration came together, the recording process, and what she learned along the way, and was joined by her friends including Kelly Rowland, director Melina, and The Lonely Island’s Andy Samberg, Akiva Shaffer, and Jorma Taccone.

The EP has been receiving praise from critics. Pitchfork awarded it a 7.8/10, writing, “True marks the sound of a singer hitting a graceful stride, in her own time and on her own terms.”

New Music: Solange – ‘Lovers in the Parking Lot’

Solange gets caught up in the game of love on “Lovers in the Parking Lot.” The melodic song, which samples Schoolly D’s 1985 single “P.S.K.,” appears on her EP True, a collaboration with Dev Hynes (Blood Orange).

“Played around with your heart/ Now I’m playing around in the dark,” sings Solo in a falsetto over a snare drum.

The 7-song EP will be available on November 27 via Terrible Records followed by a physical release in January.

Solange, Mary J. Blige, and Pharrell Honor Glamour’s Women of the Year

It was ladies’ night as Glamour magazine honored the 2012 Women of the Year at Carnegie Hall in New York City on Monday. Mary J. Blige was on hand to present an award to the U.S. gold medal Olympians including Gabby Douglas.

“Had the pleasure of honoring our women Olympic gold medalists at Glamour’s Women of the Year awards tonight,” tweeted Mary.

Solange was radiant in a yellow-and-blue Derek Lam dress and Pharrell sported a mustache and bow tie as he made the red carpet rounds.

New Music: Solange – ‘True’ [EP Snippets]

Solange continues to forge her own path with her EP True. On the follow-up to her 2008 album Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams, Beyoncé’s little sis teams with British producer/songwriter Devonté Hynes (Blood Orange) for the 7 dance-oriented tracks, which will be released digitally on November 27 via Terrible Records. A physical version will follow in January.

“My references for the record were all Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, not just their typical Janet and Prince stuff, but SOS Band and their b-sides with Chaka Khan,” Solange previously told V magazine.

Solange Reveals ‘True’ EP Cover, Tracklisting

Solange stays True to herself on her upcoming EP. Due November 27 via Terrible Records, the digital release will feature 7 tracks including the single “Losing You,” while a physical version will arrive in January. She has revealed the red cover art, with the title faintly visible in the background.

The follow-up to her 2008 album Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams is a mélange of kicky dance tracks co-written and produced by Devonté Hynes (Blood Orange). “There was an instant, musical chemistry,” says Solange of her collaborator.
