Video: Solange – ‘Lovers in the Parking Lot’

Solange returns to her Texas roots in the video for “Lovers in the Parking Lot,” the second visual release from last year’s EP True. The cinematic clip, directed by Solange and Peter J. Brant and filmed in her hometown of Houston, was made in conjunction with The Creators Project.

The 27-year-old singer dances through empty commercial spaces—from a fluorescent-lit hallway, to a basement cafeteria arcade and pawn shop, to a Houston-area mall where Bun B once worked (check his choreographed cameo at the 2:22 mark). The fashionista shows off her vibrant style, wearing Michael Craft for Puma, against muted backdrops.

Solange is currently in the studio putting the finishing touches on her first album for release on her label Saint Records.

See Solo shine bright on screen.

New Music: Janelle Monáe f/ Big Boi, CeeLo Green, & Solange – ‘Electric Lady (Remix)’

Janelle Monáe

Janelle Monáe brings that old school back on the Dungeon-Wondamix remix to her title track “Electric Lady” featuring three of her favorite artists—Big Boi, CeeLo Green, and Solange.

The critic’s darling channels early TLC on the ’90s-inspired jam, while CeeLo and Big Boi add some funk and Solange helps out on the hook.

The song can be found on the Target deluxe edition of Janelle’s album The Electric Lady, which also includes her cover of the Jackson 5′s “Want You Back.”

Get down with the funky bunch.

Solange Performs in Brooklyn Laundromat

Solange is used to playing big stages, but she headlined a laundromat for the first time as part of vitaminwater and The FADER’s #uncapped series. The Atlantis Super Wash Center in Brooklyn was transformed into a neon-lit nightclub as the 27-year-old singer performed her True tunes for an intimate crowd.

“This laundromat really has me wanting to be a drama queen tonight, so excuse my theatrics,” said Solange as she dived into “Losing You.”

She recently canceled a string of summer festival dates because she is moving to a new city and starting her son in a new school. Plus, she is in the studio recording a new album.

“I really had to make the best decision for my mental/physical health and provide some stability for my family,” she wrote on her website. “I am so so sooooo sorry if I’ve disappointed…and really hope to make it out to those special cities soon enough.”

See Solo storm the laundromat with her performance of “Bad Girls,” “Losing You,” and an appropriate cover of Nivea’s “Laundromat.”

Solange Gets Into the Groove at Pitchfork Music Festival

While her big sis Beyoncé was participating in a vigil for Trayvon Martin in New York, Solange was in Chicago for the Pitchfork Music Festival. She had fun during her funky set at Union Park on Saturday, calling for an “old-school grind fest.” The always stylish star wore a matching patterned top and pants while jamming with her six-piece band.

Solange has been very vocal in seeking justice for Trayvon. She participated in a rally last week and has been encouraging her fans to sign the petition to open a civil rights case against George Zimmerman.

“I really urge everyone today to demand that the Dept of Justice proceed w/ a Federal Civil Rights case against Zimmerman w/a FAIR Jury!” she tweeted.

R. Kelly closed out Saturday’s festivities with a headlining set and shared the stage with Jim James, Billy Idol, Brittany Howard, and John Oates for Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come.”
