Tinashe Gets ‘2 On’ at TAO

Tinashe

With her single “2 On” rising up the charts, Tinashe celebrated with a trip to Las Vegas on Thursday. The L.A. singer took over the grand cabana at TAO Beach for a daytime pool party with her pals. Later in the evening, she changed into a yellow dress and camouflage jacket before dining on wasabi-crusted filet mignon at TAO Asian Bistro.

While on the red carpet, she revealed that her debut album Aquarius will be dropping in October featuring A$AP Rocky and Future.

Following dinner, she made her way upstairs to TAO Nightclub where she hosted “Worship Thursdays” and hit the stage to perform “2 On,” which is currently No. 25 on the Billboard Hot 100. After dancing the night away in VIP, she joined DJ Five in the booth at 2 a.m. for an impromptu encore performance.

“Vegas!! Celebrating my 4th consecutive week #1 at rhythm radio,” tweeted Tinashe.

Rap-Up TV: Tinashe Enlists A$AP Rocky, Future for ‘Aquarius’ Debut

Tinashe has been all over the airwaves with her DJ Mustard-produced single “2 On” featuring ScHoolboy Q. But the L.A. singer’s success didn’t happen overnight. After getting her start in the girl group The Stunners and appearing in movies and TV shows including “Two and a Half Men,” she went on to release three mixtapes including last year’s Black Water.

Now the 21-year-old is readying her RCA Records debut Aquarius for release later this summer.

She has been in the studio with hitmakers including Mike WiLL Made It, Boi-1da, Dev Hynes, Clams Casino, and A$AP Rocky, who appears on the Detail-produced “Pretend.”

“The song with Rocky is definitely kind of a contemporary-sounding song,” she told Rap-Up TV. “It doesn’t really sound like a lot of other songs on the radio, but it’s a midtempo feel and it’s kinda minimalistic in the track.”

She also went to Atlanta to work with Future on the Jasper-produced “How Many Times.” “[Future] kept it straight ‘hood on this track, which I was super excited about,” said Tinashe. “I think it’s an interesting blend between an R&B vibe and there being some hip-hop thrown in there.”

Growing up, she listened to Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson, Sade, Keith Sweat, and Tony! Toni! Toné! “My parents played a lot of ’90s R&B in the house, so I think I was just naturally kind of influenced by that type of music.”

But she’s been drawing comparisons to one particular R&B singer. “I think being compared to Aaliyah is a huge compliment,” she said. “Interestingly enough, she wasn’t a person who I really idolized or was influenced by growing up, but I think it’s just cool that people find similarities and comparisons in our different styles.”

New Music: Tinashe – ‘Days in the West’ (Drake Cover)

Tinashe

After Drake and OB OBrien remixed her single “2 On,” Tinashe returns the favor with her take on Drizzy’s “Days in the East.” The L.A. songstress channels Aaliyah on the breathy slow jam, on which she reps her West Coast roots and calls out Internet bullies.

“You’re showing me how deep your ignorance is with your comments,” she sings.

Tinashe is working on her RCA Records debut Aquarius, which is expected to feature A$AP Rocky and Future.

Tinashe Sings National Anthem at Dodgers Game

Tinashe and Kid Ink

With her single “2 On” rising up the charts and even spawning a remix from Drake, Tinashe made her hometown proud with her patriotic performance at the Dodgers vs. Giants game on Friday.

Wearing a Dodgers jersey, the Pasadena-raised singer took to home plate at Dodger Stadium to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner,” earning cheers from the fans.

This is Tinashe’s second time singing the National Anthem at the Dodgers game. She previously performed it in 2012.

Her RCA labelmate and fellow L.A. native Kid Ink also repped Dodger blue by throwing out the ceremonial first pitch. The “Show Me” rapper showed no signs of nerves as he threw the ball past home plate.

See Tinashe and Kid Ink put it down for their hometown.
