Willow Smith Performs ‘Summer Fling’ on ‘The Queen Latifah Show’

Willow Smith

Queen Latifah kicked off the first season of her new talk show with a performance from Willow Smith. The 12-year-old singer performed “Summer Fling,” her single with her band Melodic Chaotic, for the first time on television. With her production partner DJ “MVSIC” Fabrega by her side, she showed her musical evolution with the breezy tune.

“Just for clarity, the word fling means something that’s short lived,” said Willow in a British accent. “And this song is dedicated to all the kids around the world whose summer is never long enough.”

Will and Jada’s daughter channels her raw emotions as she sings about a brokenhearted girl on the piano ballad.

“She was drowning/ He drowned her in her sorrows, but he’s scared to love another/ But he drowned her/ And he’s staring at her body in the river of eternal love,” she sings.

Willow Smith shot to superstardom at the age of 10 with her hit “Whip My Hair,” but after signing to Roc Nation and collaborating with Nicki Minaj, her debut album Knees and Elbows was never released.

Now 12 years old, Willow has re-emerged with a whole new image and sound. She joins forces with DJ Fabrega to form the duo Melodic Chaotic (she’s Melodic on the vocals, he’s Chaotic on the beats). She showcases her new music on “The Intro,” the first release from their four-song EP, due in July.

The spacey production features a more mature Willow cooing lyrics beyond her 12 years. “I look at you, you look at me, and we both know it’s not a game,” she sings.
