International superstar and humanitarian Wyclef Jean has his hands full as of late. In the wake of the tragic earthquake in Haiti, the former Fugees member wasted no time in performing at telethons and raising money for the victims of his homeland through his Yéle Haiti organization. But even a man set on taking global issues head-on sets aside time to kick a rhyme for a different cause.

During a blistering cold snowstorm in New York City on Wednesday (Feb. 10), Wyclef kept the Canal Room smoking hot by performing his signature hits for “Live Sets,” a series of live online concerts sponsored by Sony’s new global brand message make.believe (pronounced “make dot believe”).

Video: Wyclef Jean Responds to Criticism

Wyclef Jean has responded to accusations that he is personally profiting from his Yele Haiti Foundation, which has raised over $2 million in relief for victims of the Haiti earthquake.

The former Fugees member said that the money in question went toward production for shows that benefited the foundation. “I never and would ever take money for my personal pocket when it comes to Yele,” he stated. “So not only do I denounce all that, I’m disgusted by that.”

Wyclef Jean Solicits Aid for Victims of Haiti Earthquake

Following the devastating 7.0 earthquake in Haiti, Wyclef Jean immediately jumped into action to help residents of his home country. The former Fugees member appeared on CNN to call for “immediate aid” and ask for assistance in finding his hip-hop artist Jimmy O, who may have lost his life in the quake.

“My urgency right now is really a cry of freedom. We really need a state of emergency like right now,” he told CNN’s Anderson Cooper.

T.I. Inspires Wyclef Jean Concept Mixtape

Wyclef Jean has gathered some of his famous friends for a 13-song EP, due November 10. From the Hut to the Projects to the Mansion was produced by DJ Drama and features Timbaland, Cyndi Lauper, Maino, and Eve. Jean embodies the role of Toussaint St. Jean, a persona suggested to him by his friend and collaborator T.I. The gritty mixtape is based loosely on the 18th-century Haitian revolutionary hero, Toussaint L’Ouverture.
