Lil Twist has been receiving flak for his influence on Justin Bieber. But the 20-year-old Young Money rapper could care less. In the video for “Understand Me,” he brushes off his haters and boasts about his flashy lifestyle.
“Getting money, fu**ing hos, understand me/ Stacking paper, rocking shows, understand me,” raps Twist in a dark graffitied warehouse.
The track will appear on his upcoming mixtape Wake Up, due April 20.
Lil Twist has been criticized for his friendship with Justin Bieber. But the Young Money rapper-turned-TMZ star is making no apologies for his bad boy ways with the release of “Contact,” the new single off his upcoming mixtape Wake Up. Lil Wayne’s 20-year-old protégé lives the high life, proudly sharing his love for weed and women on The Audibles production. Fall under his influence.
Young Money is keeping it in the family. Lil Wayne’s daughter, Reginae Carter, has officially joined the roster. The 14-year-old singer, who was formally in the OMG Girlz, is now signed to the same label as her famous father.
“Wayne’s daughter, Reginae, is actually signed to Young Money now,” Young Money president Mack Maine told Rap-Up TV on the red carpet at Cash Money’s Pre-Grammy Party.
You can expect big things from Young Money’s youngest signee. “Just expect greatness. She’s Toya [Wright's] daughter and Wayne’s daughter, so that’s a great combination. She’s a megastar.”
Some of the label’s newest signees also include PJ Morton, Torion Sellers, and the teen group We the Future. “Right now, I’m trying to get the Young Money young’ns going,” said Mack.
Is Ashanti the next Young Money Millionaire? The R&B diva stepped out to Cash Money’s Pre-Grammy Party in West Hollywood over the weekend. But when asked about rumors that she may be joining Lil Wayne and his YMCMB family, she remained coy.
“We’ll see,” she told Rap-Up TV on the red carpet. “Those are my peoples.”
Ashanti is currently wrapping her fifth album Braveheart, due this summer, and is readying a new single.
“We’re definitely going with a new single,” said Ashanti, who is also gearing up to shoot a video. “I’m super excited about it. Hopefully we’ll be shooting in another two to three weeks. Amazing record.”
She also spoke about her collaborations with R. Kelly (“That’s What We Do”) and Keyshia Cole (“Woman to Woman”). The ladies plan to shoot a video for their duet off Keyshia’s album Woman to Woman soon.
Additionally, she can be seen in the Lifetime series “Army Wives.” “It’s a wonderful cast, wonderful opportunity,” she said. “It’s a platform. It’s all about being visible.”
2013 is shaping up to be another big year for YMCMB. In the months ahead, the label will release new albums from Lil Wayne, Drake, Jay Sean, Bow Wow, Mystikal, Busta Rhymes, and a Young Money compilation. Young Money president Mack Maine briefed us on some of the upcoming projects at Cash Money’s 4th Annual Pre-Grammy Party over the weekend.
Following Tyga’s Hotel California, Lil Wayne will drop I Am Not a Human Being II on March 26. “It’s lyrically insane,” Mack told Rap-Up TV. “When he does the I Am Not a Human Being, he actually taps into a different part of his brain where he just talks out of his mind and out of this world. Just expect him being Wayne, but more edgy, saying what he wants, a lot of fun, a lot of high energy.”
He also explained how the Kanye West-designed cover art came together. “We don’t have a Kanye track on there, so we improvised and we got a cover from him,” he said. “He did 2 Chainz’ cover [Based on a T.R.U. Story], and we liked 2 Chainz’ cover… Kanye’s great, he’s brilliant.”
Drake’s third album Nothing Was the Same will arrive this summer. “He’s on the same pace as he always is to drop a classic. He’s like 10 songs in,” shared Mack. “Knowing him, that’s only like 4 songs, he probably won’t keep 6 of them. He’s a perfectionist though.”
Also on the slate is another Young Money compilation. While they’ve only recorded one song so far, he’s looking to get the crew in the studio for more. “I’m trying to get some dates where we can all lock in.”
