VH1 Hip Hop Honors 2009: Red Carpet

Hip-hop and R&B stars, past and present, bridged the gap to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Def Jam at VH1 Hip Hop Honors 2009 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York on Wednesday (Sept. 23).

Foxy Brown and DMX reemerged from hiding to join Eminem, Ludacris, Chuck D, Flavor Flav, Eve, Ashanti, Method Man, Fabolous, Trey Songz, Kid Rock, and more in paying homage to the legendary hip-hop label.

VH1 Honors Hip-Hop’s Pioneers

What defines a hip-hop legend? Talent, longevity, and demanded respect. The Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City was packed with VIPs who came out to celebrate their legends this year, at the taping of “VH1 Hip Hop Honors.” Among the honorees this year were Snoop Dogg, Missy Elliott, A Tribe Called Quest, New Jack Swing, Whodini, and even Wild Style (celebrating hip-hop art and breakdancing).

Tracy Morgan hosted the show, decked out in a thick gold dookie chain and armed with celebratory jokes for the honorees. Celebrity guests such as the gorgeous Kerry Washington presented awards and hip-hop heavy-hitters dropped in to show their appreciation for the exalted music pioneers all evening.

Black Girls Rock! Awards

The Black Girls Rock! Awards were held yesterday at The Allen Room, home of Jazz at Lincoln Center. This event was part of VH1 Hip-Hop Honors weekend in NYC. The show recognizes exceptional women of color who have made outstanding contributions in their careers and communities. Missy Elliott was among the honorees. Cassie, Tweet, MC Lyte, and Chrisette Michele were in attendance.
