Kanye West was crowned king at the Coachella Music and Arts Festival. The hip-hop mastermind delivered an electrifying performance on Sunday night (April 17), closing out the three-day festival in Indio, Calif.
Rihanna flocked to the desert for Coachella weekend in Indio, Calif. Dressed in a camouflage jacket, faded cutoff shorts, big-brimmed hat, and gun-shaped necklace, the “S&M” singer checked out Arcade Fire’s show on the second day of the festival, later making her way to the second annual Neon Carnival hosted by A|X Armani Exchange and 944 magazine.
“Coachella! Fun times… Arcade Fire, u fuckin blew my mind! Felt like a kid again! U rock!!” she tweeted.
Celebs including Usher, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Paris Hilton rode the Ferris wheel, slide, and bumper cars at the neon-lit extravaganza. DJs Mia Moretti, Rick Rude, and Jessie Marco ignited the dance floor, as guests enjoyed carnival games, cotton candy, and cocktails.
Kanye West will close out the three-day festival tonight. Will RiRi join him onstage for “All of the Lights”?
Rye Rye got the party started in the desert. M.I.A.’s 20-year-old protégée lit up the Sahara stage at Coachella in a neon-colored top, cutoff shorts adorned with patches, and rainbow army boots as she dove into her lively set. She gave festivalgoers a taste of her debut album Go! Pop! Bang! by performing her single “Bang” and the M.I.A.-assisted “Sunshine.” Pharrell (“Shake, Twist, Drop”), Bangladesh, and Tyga have contributed to the project, due later this year.
Erykah Badu spread peace, love, and happiness on Day 2 of Coachella. After a slight delay, the neo-soul songstress hit the main stage in a sheer shall, rolled up overalls, gold accessories, and a black hat. She opened with “20 Feet Tall” from her latest album New Amerykah Part Two, performing crowd favorites like “Appletree” and her mainstay “On and On.”
But like Cee Lo Green before her, Erykah’s set ended abruptly when her microphone was cut due to her tardiness. She politely smiled, then tossed the mic head into the audience to express her disappointment.
Odd Future, including superfan Tyler, the Creator, and Wynter Gordon were spotted soaking up the sounds of Ms. Badu.
Lauryn Hill was in good spirits during her first Coachella appearance. L. Boogie, draped in a flowing blue-and-white striped dress under a cropped leather jacket, was running a little behind for her set and had some sound problems early on, but she didn’t disappoint the sweaty fans who braved the desert heat to catch her on the main stage.
The former Fugees frontwoman and her band reworked favorites like “The Sweetest Thing” and “Ex-Factor,” adding in Fugees classics including “Ready or Not” and “Fu-Gee-La.” “It wouldn’t be right if we didn’t leave you with one more tune,” said Ms. Hill before singing her Grammy-winning opus “Doo Wop (That Thing)” with her backup singers.
“We love you. We gotta do this again. Bless and love Coachella,” she told the audience before making her exit.
Cee Lo Green was killin’ the ladies at Coachella. The R&B lothario showed off his tatted belly during his appearance on the first day of the three-day festival in the desert of Indio, Calif. Cee Lo, who arrived late, voiced his frustration when his onstage time was cut down, forcing him to perform an abridged version of his set. But he still rocked out with his all-female band, closing the show with his befitting hit “F**k You” and throwing up the middle finger.
Odd Future’s profile continues to rise. The hip-hop collective shared the stage with Pharrell during their debut appearance at Coachella. Skateboard P came out to perform “Inside of the Clouds” with the group’s leader Tyler, the Creator, who grew up idolizing him.
“That Was Fu**ing Fu**ing Great! Fu**ing P! I’ve Waited For That Moment For 9 Years. Still Can’t Believe It,” wrote Tyler. “When He Started Screaming Out WolfGang I Fu**ing Lost It. I Still Can’t Believe That Shit Actually Happened.”
OFWGKTA’s sole female member Syd was seen shedding a tear after the big moment. The Cali crew didn’t allow photographers or livestreaming during their set, so you’ll have to make do with the fan-captured footage.
Miguel worked up a sweat on the first day of the Coachella Music and Arts Festival in Indio, Calif., performing music from his debut All I Want Is You. After hitting the stage, the R&B crooner got a backstage visit from his friend and labelmate Usher, whose tour he opened for last year.
“That’s my big bro,” Miguel previously told Rap-Up.com. “He is one of the hardest working guys I know and [someone] that I look up to.”
Ursh, casually dressed in shorts, a purple T-shirt, sneakers, and sunglasses, mingled with festivalgoers at the Empire Polo Club, happily posing for pics.
