Dr. Dre Dispels Tupac Hologram Tour Rumors

Dr. Dre

Shortly before taking the stage on the final day of Coachella, Dr. Dre made a video to thank everyone for their love and support for his two shows in the desert. Checking in from backstage at the Empire Polo Grounds in Indio, Calif., the West Coast icon also shot down reports that he created the Tupac Shakur hologram for a tour with Snoop Dogg.

“I want to get rid of all the rumors out there,” said Dre. “This was not done for a tour. If a tour happens, we’ll see. This was done strictly for Coachella 2012.”

The Wall Street Journal previously reported that Dre and Snoop were plotting a tour involving themselves and the holographic Pac, which reportedly cost between $100,000 and $400,000 to produce.

A$AP Rocky Brings Out Master P, Pays Tribute to Trayvon Martin at Coachella

A$AP Rocky returned to Coachella for the second weekend, but this time he brought along some friends. During his late-night set on Saturday, the Harlem MC performed “Goldie,” the first single off his debut Long.Live.A$AP.

“And I’m so ’bout it, ’bout it, I might roll up in a tank,” rapped A$AP before Master P, Romeo, and the No Limit family joined the A$AP Mob onstage to perform their 1998 street anthem “Make Em Say Uhh!”

After surprising the crowd, they took a moment to pay tribute to slain Florida teen Trayvon Martin with “I Miss My Homies.”

“It was murder with the case of Trayvon Martin recently and me and P thought it would be right to dedicate something to him,” said A$AP as P called out the names of some fallen soldiers including Tupac, Whitney Houston, and Pimp C.

Frank Ocean Performs ‘American Wedding’ at Coachella

Frank Ocean returned to Coachella for the second weekend, serving up a strong set without the technical difficulties of the previous week. This time, he was backed by a new band including Incubus guitarist Mike Einziger. The Odd Future singer switched up his setlist, surprisingly adding the “Hotel California”-sampled “American Wedding” into the mix.

Just last month, Eagles founder Don Henley reportedly threatened to sue him for his unauthorized use of the 1977 classic. (For his part, Henley denies that any lawsuit has been filed, but the Eagles are considering legal action.)

“I guess if I play it at coachella it’ll cost me a couple hundred racks,” wrote Ocean, who decided to change up the melody when he performed the song live with Einziger in Indio on Friday night. However, the lyrics remained the same.

What do you think of Frank’s live version of “American Wedding”?

Rihanna Lives Young, Wild, and Free at Coachella

Rihanna

Snoop Dogg wasn’t the only one sending out smoke signals at Coachella. Rihanna lit up the stage and a joint during her fun-filled weekend in the desert. The pop star joined DJ Calvin Harris during his dance-fueled set at the Sahara tent on Sunday. Wearing a cropped tank top that read “Peace” and studded cutoff shorts, the wild child crowd surfed as she performed her Harris-produced hit “We Found Love” and new single “Where Have You Been,” even getting her friend Katy Perry to join in.

“This turned out to be one of the best nights of my life,” tweeted RiRi, who told Harris, “I had so much fun with your fucking fanz tonight! Diz hoodrat $kabii @katyperry also crowd surft n ATE my A$$ during my show.”

After her thrilling show, she perched herself atop the shoulders of a bodyguard while checking out Dr. Dre and Snoop’s epic closer. Following the D-O-Double-G’s lead, she smoked her own stash as she vibed to the West Coast sounds with “Thug Life” written across her stomach and a Chanel jacket on her back.
