Beyoncé Tours New Orleans in Super Bowl Diary

Beyoncé

With only hours until she touches down on the field for today’s Super Bowl XVLII halftime show, a proud Beyoncé returns to familiar territory in the third vlog from her Super Bowl diaries. The Houston native drives through New Orleans’ French Quarter on her way to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome while reflecting on her journey.

“I felt very proud because I know this is my legacy,” says Bey as “Halo” plays in the background. “I’m really happy it’s in the South. I’m happy that it’s close to home. I spent many car rides coming to New Orleans from Texas, so it feels nice to be where my family is from, Louisiana. It’s kinda like everything is coming back around full circle.”

With the goal post in sight, she pulls into the venue as the clip ends. See Bey get nostalgic as she tours NOLA.

Lil Wayne Touches Down at Madden Bowl

Lil Wayne

Lil Wayne welcomed the world to his hometown of New Orleans for Super Bowl XLVII. The Young Money chief headlined Electronic Arts’ Madden Bowl XIX along with Big Boi on Friday night at the Bud Light Hotel. A shirtless Weezy took the stage to perform his hits including his latest “Love Me” off his upcoming album I Am Not a Human Being II, due March 26.

While his team the Green Bay Packers are not playing in the Super Bowl this year, he was still happy that the festivities are being held in his hometown. “I’m excited for it to be in New Orleans, for the city, period,” he told MTV News. “Just for the city to get that kind of respect and that recognition, after such a tragedy [like Hurricane Katrina].”

He plans to kick back and watch the Ravens take on the 49ers on Super Bowl Sunday. “I’m going to just chill with family, enjoy the game like everybody else,” he said. “My team’s not in it, so I ain’t trippin’.”

On Saturday, Weezy will perform again at GQ magazine’s annual Super Bowl party. The invite-only event will take place at the historic Elm’s Mansion on St. Charles Avenue in the city’s Garden District.

Beyoncé Beams About Blue Ivy, Teases Super Bowl Set on NFL Network

Beyoncé

Sunday is all about Beyoncé…and football. In preparation for the Super Bowl halftime show, Bey made the media rounds on Thursday. After her press conference, she changed into a red dress and sat down with Deion Sanders on the NFL Network to discuss her highly-anticipated performance, motherhood, and some of her favorite past performers.

She remained tight-lipped about what she’s got in store (aside from saying that there will be new choreography and wardrobe changes). She has been preparing for months, watching past performances online, and selecting which songs she will fit into her 12-minute set.

“This is the highlight of a career,” said Bey, who admitted that she gets nervous. “The hardest thing was figuring out what I was gonna perform.”

Mrs. Carter also opened up about her one-year-old daughter Blue Ivy, who knows the “Single Ladies” dance and sings “Uh oh!”

Beyoncé even sang some of the lyrics to Deion’s 1994 rap single “Must Be The Money” and got up to do the choreography.

Check out the highlights below.
