Pharrell Gets a Giant Hat From Ellen

Pharrell Williams and Ellen

Pharrell is everywhere. Following his appearances on “SNL” and “GMA” earlier in the week, the Oscar-nominated hitmaker stopped by “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Thursday, where he performed “Happy” and his latest G I R L single “Marilyn Monroe” with some female dancers.

He also showed off his Swarovski-studded Stan Smith sneakers and discussed his nine Billboard Music Awards nominations, his love for women, and equality for everyone.

“Who are you telling who they can marry and who they can’t?” said Pharrell. “This is 2014.”

Ellen also presented him with a giant brown hat, but Pharrell realized that it might draw comparisons to something less PG.

“This might be a lot online,” he laughed.

Plus, he helped Ellen surprise the young students at Detroit Academy of Arts and Sciences with a $50,000 check.

Expect to see even more of Pharrell in the coming days. He will perform at Coachella on Saturday and sit down with Oprah on OWN’s “Oprah Prime” on Sunday.

Rap-Up TV: Mike Posner Enlists Justin Bieber, 2 Chainz for ‘Pages’

It’s been nearly four years since Mike Posner released his debut 31 Minutes to Takeoff. The Detroit singer has been working on the follow-up Pages, and recently caught up with Rap-Up TV to discuss everything from his love for André 3000 to his upcoming collaboration with Justin Bieber to his struggle with depression.

The 26-year-old, who attended Duke University, thought that getting a record deal would make him happy. “And of course, when I got these things, in a lot of ways it made my problems worse,” he said. “I felt very disillusioned. I had success, I had money, a lot of my dreams had come true, but I didn’t feel any happier.”

So one day while eating a “nasty sandwich” on an airplane, he was inspired to give back. “The idea was to make an album and for every album I sold, give a meal to a kid, one for one,” he explained.

He has collaborated with Big Sean on the album’s first single “Top of the World” as well as 2 Chainz, Labrinth, and Justin Bieber, who he worked with on a song called “Get Down.”

“It’s very stripped. It’s like the most minimal song on the record. One guitar, drums, and a bass, and that’s it,” said Posner, who co-wrote Bieber’s hit “Boyfriend.” “It’s all unquantized too, J Dilla style, so that’s really cool.”

One person he dreams of collaborating with is OutKast’s André 3000, whose concert he attended when he was 11.

Prior to the release of Pages, he plans to drop a new collection called …Featuring Me. “It’s a bunch of songs featuring me that I wrote and produced, but all collabs with other people,” said Posner. “For me as a writer and producer, I do a ton of different shit, so this project is kinda like me bragging in a way, like look at what I can do.”

Brandy Reunites with Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, & Yo-Yo on ‘Queen Latifah Show’

Yo-Yo, MC Lyte, Brandy, and Queen Latifah

Twenty years after the release of her debut single “I Wanna Be Down,” Brandy reunited with her remix collaborators Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, and Yo-Yo on Tuesday’s “Queen Latifah Show.”

The rap divas discussed the making of the song (Latifah rewrote her rap after listening to Yo-Yo and Lyte’s verses) and Brandy admitted that she didn’t understand the lyrics at the time.

“I didn’t know what ya’ll was saying,” she laughed. “I was so happy that ya’ll was on the song, I said I don’t care, honey.”

Brandy also dished about playing Chardonnay on BET’s “The Game” and her surprise 35th birthday, hosted by her brother Ray J.

“I was surprised. I was scared. I was shocked. It was a great experience,” said Brandy. “It was the type of party where I felt like everyone there, I had a moment with them at some point in my life.”
