Video: Jay Z – ‘Picasso Baby’ [Trailer]

Jay-Z

The hip-hop and art worlds collide in Jay Z’s performance art film for “Picasso Baby,” the Timbaland-produced single off his No. 1 album Magna Carta…Holy Grail.

The Roc Nation mogul shot the visuals at Pace Gallery in New York earlier this month. Spectators including Judd Apatow, Alan Cumming, and the “grandmother of performance art” Marina Abramović gathered around as he took turns interacting with them in the all-white space.

“Concerts are pretty much performance art,” explains Jay, who is currently playing stadiums on his “Legends of the Summer” tour. “In a smaller venue, it’s a bit more intimate so you feel the energy of the people.”

Jay Z will appear on HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher” on Friday, August 2, at 10 p.m. followed by the premiere of “Picasso Baby: A Performance Art Film” at 11 p.m.

Check out the 30-second trailer for his latest masterpiece below.

Video: K. Michelle – ‘The Introduction: Rebellious Soul’

K. Michelle

K. Michelle has emerged as a breakout star on VH1′s “Love & Hip Hop Atlanta.” Now the Memphis songstress turns the spotlight on her music with her new “Day in the Life” series. At the end of last season, she locked herself in the studio and started recording her Atlantic Records debut Rebellious Soul.

She documents the process in the seven webisodes, premiering exclusively on Rap-Up.com starting next week. In the trailer, she explains why she is a “rebel with a cause” and makes music with T.I.

“This project means everything to me,” says K. “A lot of people counted me out, a lot of people call me ratchet, and yes I can be ratchet. But I’m a ratchet musician. I’m a person who lives, loves, and breathes everything music. I was determined that with this project people were gonna understand that music is still alive and I was determined with this project that people were gonna finally see me for more than just a crazy, ratchet reality star.”

But don’t expect her to tone it down. “No one will tame me, ever, never, and it won’t begin on this album.”
