Following his interview with Trina, Nardwuar popped questions to her man French Montana aka Julius Caesar. The Canadian journalist caught up with the Coke Boy during his visit to Vancouver. While puffing from a hookah, the “Freaks” rapper spoke about his love for Slick Rick and Doug E. Fresh, and recommended some of the best spots in his native Morocco.
He also revealed for the first time that he used to raise pigeons when he was young. “Out there, they eat ‘em,” he said. “Over [in the U.S.], you eat ‘em, you wake up with a drug addiction.”
Nardwuar presented him with Bun B’s Rap Coloring and Activity Book, which French plans to give to his son, while French complimented the quirky host on his swag.
“Is that Versace?” he asked him about his thrift shop shirt.
They froze for a photo before parting ways. “You really unique, man. Keep doing what you do,” said French.
Pusha T met up with Nardwuar during his visit to Austin, Texas, for SXSW. As always, the quirky Canadian journalist came bearing gifts including a Wu-Tang chess set and UTFO and Big Daddy Kane albums.
“First of all, I came to the conclusion Big Daddy Kane was my favorite rapper just recently while I was creating Wrath of Caine,” said Pusha.
He spoke about wearing a bulletproof vest while performing for drug dealers and the time Pharrell threatened to give the Clipse’s “Grindin’” beat to Jay-Z.
“I feel like Pusha and Jay both do the same things,” said Pharrell. “Jay always wants to hear what Pusha’s not taking and Pusha always wants to hear what Jay’s not taking.”
The G.O.O.D. Music rapper also shared his love for Missy Elliott. “Missy surpassed everybody as far as being an innovator videowise, songwise, songwriter. She’s done too much. Missy’s my hero, personally.”
He apologized for not looking fresh and swapped clothing with Nardwuar for the photo.
Nardwuar has interviewed everyone from Jay-Z to Lady Gaga, and now Pharrell turns the tables on the Canadian journalist. The Neptunes producer and his team of researchers dig into the Human Serviette’s past, presenting him with several gifts including a bow tie made of cheese, an iPhone case with Vancouver’s Lions Gate Bridge, and the 1969 book The Peter Principle.
The i am OTHER founder also gives him the sheet music for “Here’s a Ho! Vancouver,” which Pharrell credits for starting the ratchet movement. Pharrell teaches him how to sing the “ho” ad-libs, and Narduar tries to replicate it, which gets a laugh out of P.
He also gifts him with ancient Nard oil and rolls out a poster of Nardwuar’s dream girl Heather Locklear. “You better get the lotion ready for this one,” jokes Pharrell, while saluting his investigative skills.
“I think you are a genius freak of nature when it comes to music and it comes to history,” says Pharrell. “Whoever you have doing research needs to consider a job for the CIA.”
Pharrell went one-on-one with his i am OTHER partner Nardwuar during his visit to SXSW. The quirky Canadian brought up all sorts of obscure facts from The Neptunes producer’s past and presented him with gifts including an Isley Brothers vinyl.
Pharrell, who refrains from smoking and drugs, recalled falling asleep on the toilet after eating six weed brownies and the trippy effects it had on him. “Because of this experience, I do not like brownies in any way, shape, or form,” he said.
He also discussed how Teddy Riley changed his life, breaking his arm, and being in the group SBI (Surrounded By Idiots) with Timbaland and Magoo.
At the end, Pharrell turns the tables on Nardwuar, but you’ll have to wait to see that interview.
Snoop Dogg met up with Nardwuar at SXSW, this time as Snoop Lion. As always, the Canadian interviewer came bearing gifts including an old concert poster, which he asked him to sign. “You bring shit that I should be taking from your ass, but I’ma sign it for you,” said Snoop.
He also presented him with a Snoop figurine, inflatable Beyoncé doll (“You ain’t getting this back,” said Snoop), and Blowfly bobblehead.
When asked why he didn’t get the shout-out that he was promised in his album, Snoop replied, “Get used to it. I tell a whole bunch of motherfuckin’ lies.”
The Reincarnated rapper also got Nardwuar high on his supply, blowing kush in his mouth while posing for his signature shot.
It was all love when Nardwuar met Trinidad James during his visit to SXSW. The quirky Canadian presented the “All Gold Everything” rapper with gifts including a vinyl of calypso singer Mighty Sparrow. He discussed his past jobs working at JC Penney and the waffle house near the strip club in Atlanta, where the strippers’ favorite meal was pork chops and eggs.
Trinidad showed his respect by presenting him with an autographed copy of his original mixtape Don’t Be S.A.F.E.
Nardwuar also introduced Trinidad to Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, who happened to be in the room waiting for their interview. They bonded over watches and Trinidad praised their hit song “Thrift Shop.”
And of course, Trinidad froze for a photo with Nardwuar after the interview. See how long he was able to hold the pose.
Nardwuar caught up with Wiz Khalifa during his recent trip to Vancouver. As always, the quirky Canadian journalist came bearing gifts including a Cheech and Chong album (complete with rolling papers), a framed Cypress Hill “Smoke Out” tour poster from 1996, and a bunch of marijuana records from the ’60s.
The Taylor Gang boss spoke about crashing college parties (“If you want your frat shut down, holla at me”) and revealed what fiancée Amber Rose told him about working with Young Jeezy, Ludacris, and Chris Brown.
Plus, he posed for one of his famous photos with Wiz and his Taylor Gang fam including LoLa Monroe.
During his trip to Vancouver, Waka Flocka Flame caught up with Canadian journalist/YouTube sensation Nardwuar. With his brother Woo Da Kid by his side, the Brick Squad rapper was amazed by Nardwuar’s breadth of knowledge as he presented him with SWV and Doug E. Fresh records, salt and vinegar chips (his favorite), and other surprises, prompting Waka to respond, “You da man! I fuck with you.”
