The BET Awards were on a “New Level” this year and Rap-Up TV was there to capture it all. Hitting the sizzling red carpet at this year’s event, artists from all walks of music and entertainment stopped by to share news and memories.
Bilal, for instance, recalled Prince interactions prior to performing his show-stopping tribute to the Purple One. “I got to meet Prince like three or four times,” he said. “Always memorable. He was a serious guy, funny cat, and very focused.”
Others, like Rich the Kid, had some big name collaborations to reveal. “I got the record with Justin Bieber, [Young] Thug, and Diplo dropping at the top of August,” he said.
Meanwhile, Young Greatness explained what it’s like to work with two rap titans, Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz, on the “Moolah (Remix).” “To have two legends on my remix is big,” he said.
Someone who’s also worked with big names—Bibi Bourelly, the songwriter behind Rihanna’s “Bitch Better Have My Money” and more—revealed her excitement for some of her solo material. “July, Free the Real (Part 2) is dropping,” she said. “It’s gonna be lit. All new songs.”
Elsewhere, Karrueche Tran shared some big news of her own. “I have something fashion-related with BET on the network,” she revealed. “Something very me, very true to me, lots of fun…Wait for it.”
ScHoolboy Q, who just released his Blank Face LP, also dropped by to talk about the album. “I recorded at my house,” he said. “I had a lot of time and I did whatever I wanted to do. I never felt rushed or pressured. Sometimes, when you’re in a big studio, you do studio time as a 12-hour session, so you feel like you gotta do everything that day. This time, I was able to work on a record for 24 hours and I never felt this happy in my life working on a record.”
Plus, “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)” hitmaker Silentó revealed some big collaborations with Robin Thicke and Rich Homie Quan on his upcoming EP and album.
Watch to see what even more artists, including BJ the Chicago Kid and Kevin Ross, had to share.
