Mila J put on for her city at Power 106’s “Valentine’s Crush” concert at The Forum in L.A. on Friday. Fresh off performing for her hometown crowd, the sexy singer spoke to Rap-Up TV about her Valentine’s Day plans. When it comes to romance, she’s old school.
“I think the man should be the romancer, but I do believe that women should get a man a gift because I feel like Valentine’s Day always turns into what the man’s supposed to do for the woman and it’s never reciprocated on the other end,” said Mila.
While she may or may not be dating Trey Songz, she is in love with her music. She plans to release her album before the summer, and has been in the studio with DJ Mustard, The-Dream, Tricky Stewart, and Sam Hook. “It’s a good mix. I have new producers and writers on the album, but also obviously the greats that I named.”
While on the road, she’s been listening to Drake’s new mixtape If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late. “It actually helped me get home last night,” said Mila. “Of course I went and bought it and downloaded it. It’s dope. I love the ‘Energy’ record and the one that says mama [‘You & the 6’].”
So what does she think of surprise releases from artists like Drake and Beyoncé? “Obviously they can do it because they have their following, so the minute you find out any of them is dropping music, you automatically just want it,” she said. “In this day and time, that’s one of the perks of the Internet and technology, that you can just be like, ‘OK, I want my album out right now,’ and do it.”
Mila’s EP M.I.L.A. is available now featuring the singles “My Main” with Ty Dolla $ign and the B.o.B-assisted “Champion.”
