Dr. Dre

Dr. Dre has been holed up in his lab working on the oft-delayed Detox for the past six years. So what has the Doc been listening to for inspiration during his time away?

In an interview with Reuters, the hip-hop pioneer said he doesn’t have a favorite artist right now, but he did share whose music has been coming out of his Beats by Dr. Dre headphones. “I’ve been listening to a lot of old ’60s and ’70s music,” he revealed. “Things like Kraftwerk, and Parliament Funkadelic. I’ve really been listening to a lot of Kraftwerk.”

The German electro band is his latest obsession, but that could change at a moment’s notice. “Kraftwerk had a really big inspiration on the beginning of hip-hop. My tastes change with the season. Right now it’s Kraftwerk. I’ll see what happens this summer.”

The article also mentions that Detox is “inching toward a spring 2010 release.” While an official date has yet to be announced, Dre has confirmed that the first single, “Under Pressure” featuring Jay-Z, will be released this month.
