J. Cole surprised fans by bringing out Drake during his tour closer at Highline Ballroom in New York City last night. The two performed “In the Morning” from Cole’s mixtape and Drizzy’s “Up All Night” (video below).

Cole recently told staging-rapup.kinsta.cloud how their collabo from his Friday Night Lights mixtape came to be. “That was an older song of mine that I always wanted to bring back to life and Drake one day just hit me and told me how much he liked the song,” said the Roc Nation rapper. “That conversation led to him saying, ‘Yo, if you bring it back to life, just save me 16 bars.’ I ended up bringing it back to life and putting him on it.”

Despite people trying to pit them against one another, they’ve remained cool. “There was always a J. Cole vs. Drake pit and I kinda just let that go on, but we were always communicating and building the relationship.”
