Justin Bieber once again faced the always-outrageous hosts on Power 105.1’s “The Breakfast Club” when he called in on Tuesday morning. The 18-year-old singer discussed his more “urban” sound, collaborating with producers such as Timbaland, Pharrell, Diplo, and Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins on his upcoming album Believe.

“I just wanted to make something that was funky, but also something that my fans would like, and also something that I could branch out and get some older audience members,” said Bieber of the Mike Posner-produced first single “Boyfriend.”

Hip-hop has had an impact on his pop-friendly sound. “You have to pull from the hip-hop community, because that’s where all the swag comes from,” he said, while noting that he wasn’t planning to go overboard. “I’m not gonna try to go all the way there. I’m going halfway.”

Charlamagne Tha God gave the teen idol his stamp of approval, selecting him in the “racial draft.” “We’re taking you first round and we’re giving you Justin Timberlake’s old locker,” he joked.
