7 Days of Funk

Snoop Dogg is reinventing himself once again. As part of his latest reincarnation, the hip-hop icon is working on a funk album under the name Snoopzilla.

Snoop has teamed up with modern funk king Dam-Funk for the collaborative album 7 Days of Funk, due Dec. 10 on Stones Throw Records. He will go under the name Snoopzilla, an homage to Bootsy Collins, who adopted the moniker Bootzilla.

The new group, 7 Days of Funk, is a result of the two artists bonding over the love of funk. They began to collaborate when Dam invited Snoop to perform with him at a 2011 SXSW show.

“We’re the babies of the Mothership,” said Snoopzilla. “I’ve had funk influences in my music my whole career. Dam-Funk is cold. He’s keeping the funk alive and I knew I had to get down with him.”

7 Days of Funk will feature guest spots from Daz, Kurupt, and Steve Arrington.

“It’s hip-hop, but you can also hear what we grew up on, from Zapp to Evelyn ‘Champagne’ King and Patrice Rushen,” said Dam.

In April, Snoop released his Major Lazer-assisted reggae album Reincarnated under the name Snoop Lion.
