OutKast

In honor of their 20th anniversary, OutKast reunited on stage at Coachella for their first performance in seven years. Big Boi and the elusive André 3000 closed out the first day of the three-day festival in Indio, Calif. with a 90-minute set, their first of 40+ performances scheduled this year.

After moving up their set time to 11:05 p.m., they didn’t actually take the stage until around 11:30 p.m. Emerging to the explosive sounds of “B.O.B.,” the Atlanta duo commanded the stage with their joint hits and solo material.

Dressed in overalls, a hoodie, and a hat adorned with the Mexican flag, André 3000 traded verses with Big Boi on “ATLiens” and “Rosa Parks” while standing inside a cube.

“It feels good to be back,” said Big Boi.

Sleepy Brown joined them for “SpottieOttieDopaliscious” before Big Boi launched into a solo set that included “Shutterbugg,” “Ghetto Musick,” and “Kryptonite (I’m on It).”

Surprise guest Janelle Monáe electrified alongside her musical mentor Big Boi during “Tightrope.”

“This is my favorite group in the entire world,” she said. “And what we are witnessing tonight is history.”

Three Stacks returned for his solo singles “She Lives in My Lap,” “Prototype,” and “Behold a Lady,” and shouted out Prince and Odd Future’s Tyler, the Creator, who were both in attendance.

Dungeon Family member Future hit the stage to perform “Same Damn Time,” “Ain’t No Way Around It,” and “Benz Friends (Whatchutola),” his new song with André off his upcoming album Honest, which he plugged several times.

The crowd sang along to “Ms. Jackson” and “So Fresh, So Clean” off 2000’s Stankonia.

Big Boi served up his biggest hit “The Way You Move” and André had everyone shaking it like a Polaroid picture with “Hey Ya!”

Their microphones were cut off at 1 a.m., just before they brought out Killer Mike to perform “The Whole World.”

“I’m sorry, but they actually cut us off,” said André. “I really appreciate ya’ll coming out. I know it’s kinda weird. Twenty years later and shit.”

The group will play Coachella again next weekend before performing at festivals throughout the summer including Governor’s Ball in New York, Wireless Festival in London, and Drake’s OVO Fest in Toronto.
