August Alsina Talks New Album, Eye Surgery, & Dating

  /  07.02.2015

August Alsina paid a visit to “The Angie Martinez Show” on Power 105.1 this week. The New Orleans crooner discussed the highs and lows of the past year including his hospitalization for exhaustion and vision loss.

During the interview, he revealed that he had a disease called Keratoconus, which caused blindness in his left eye and loss of vision in his right. But he had eye surgery and was able to prevent his vision from getting worse. “It hurt like hell, but it definitely made me have a different perspective on life,” said August.

Despite his recent health scares, he’s in a good place right now. “I’m better than ever and I’m more focused than ever. I’m absolutely happy.”

He also spoke about his dating life (or lack thereof). “I haven’t been on a date,” revealed August, who denied that he is dating Keke Palmer. “It was a hangout, but definitely not a date.”

He hopes to release his sophomore album sometime around the end of August/mid-September. It will feature his new single “Hip Hop.” “That’s really what the single is, celebrate your sorrows and keep your head up and know that it’s something better to come. Embrace your journey, embrace your struggle.”

Plus, hear him speak on his BET Awards fashion meme and why his city showed him no love.
