Nicki Minaj Performs on 'GMA,' Talks Taylor Swift and VMAs

  /  07.24.2015

In between dates on her “Pinkprint Tour,” Nicki Minaj took over New York’s Central Park for the “GMA” Summer Concert Series on Friday (July 24). The rap queen performed her latest hits including “Feeling Myself” and “The Night Is Still Young,” and took it back with “Moment 4 Life.”

She also sat down with Lara Spencer to discuss the Taylor Swift Twitter debacle. The two superstars spoke on the phone yesterday and are “all good” after their spat following Tuesday’s announcement of the MTV VMA nominations.

“She was super, super sweet, and she apologized,” said Nicki. “She said, ‘Look, I didn’t understand the big picture of what you were saying, but now I get it.’ So we’re all good.”

Nicki also addressed the absence of “Anaconda” from the Video of the Year category. “‘Anaconda’ had such a huge cultural impact, and on top of that, we broke the Vevo record. I do think if it was one of the pop girls, there would have [been] many nominations for it.”

Nicki was disappointed with the lack of diversity in the nominations. “I think that we just have to have both images for girls,” she said. “We can’t have only one type of body being glorified in the media because it just makes girls even more insecure than we already are.”

She and Taylor are on good terms, and she even left the door open to a collaboration. “I’m sure we can. It takes a big person to do what Taylor did, and everyone sometimes speaks out of turn,” said Nicki. “We spoke for a long time. We were cracking up laughing on the phone. It’s over, you guys.”

Nicki stars in the upcoming comedy Barbershop 3 alongside Ice Cube, Cedric the Entertainer, and Common. “You guys are going to love Barbershop 3. I’m not kidding,” she told her Barbz. “That movie is so freakin’ funny and it’s so classic, and it has an amazing cast.”

Plus, she announced her new fragrance “The Pinkprint,” which will hit stores in September. “This smells so good. It’s by far my best!” she said.
