Rihanna Says New Album Is Not Finished, Promises ‘Something Great’

Will Rihanna release R8 this fall? The answer remains to be seen.

In an interview for the cover of NME, RiRi sheds more light on her oft-delayed eighth album.

“To me it’s never done until it’s done,” she tells the magazine. “Until the final moment.”

But fans are eagerly awaiting the release. “No matter what I post online, within three comments there’s somebody saying, ‘Where is R8?'” she says. “I could post anything. Nothing else matters. They don’t care about anything but that. But it makes me excited, because I can’t wait to give them something great.”

So what’s the hold up? Ask executive producer Kanye West. “We just have to wait to get back in the studio together,” she shares. “His schedule and mine are totally opposite right now, but I think this month we’ll be back in the studio.”

The two have already released one of their collaborations, the Paul McCartney-assisted “FourFiveSeconds,” but she’s having a hard time narrowing down the tracks. “I have so many songs I love—and they’re so different—that it’s hard to actually put them all on the same album.”

R8 has also spawned the singles “American Oxygen” and “Bitch Better Have My Money.” Additionally, she has collaborated with her Roc Nation brother J. Cole on a track produced by Deputy (“BBHMM”).

“It’s something that you wouldn’t expect, but it’s really dope. It’s a really great song,” the producer told Rap-Up TV in June.
