Erykah Badu Reveals 'But You Caint Use My Phone' Tracklisting

  /  11.25.2015

On Black Friday, Erykah Badu will release her new mixtape But You Caint Use My Phone. The project, inspired by a line from her 1997 hit “Tyrone,” will be available exclusively on iTunes for one week and will be available for streaming via Apple Music. It will go to other digital retailers and streaming partners on Dec. 4.

The 11 tracks, her first full body of work since 2010’s New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh), include “Phone Down” and her remix to Drake’s “Hotline Bling” (renamed “Cell U Lar Device”), which she recorded as a birthday gift to a close friend.

In collaboration with producer Zach Witness, the mixtape was written, recorded, and mixed in Badu’s hometown of Dallas over the course of 12 days. It includes a few surprise guests, all of who recorded their contributions in the same bedroom studio. Each song makes reference to telephones and our reliance on staying connected.

Following the tape’s release, Badu will host the 2015 Soul Train Awards on Sunday, Nov. 29, at 8 p.m. ET on BET. She will also perform “Phone Down” on television for the first time.
