Tinashe is having some “natural fun.” Before unveiling her oft-delayed sophomore album Joyride, the singer remakes Tom Tom Club’s “Genius of Love” classic for a Target ad.

The M.A.C spokeswoman, whose “Joyride World Tour” kicks off Feb. 28, sings and provides Wyclef-esque ad libs over DJ Cassidy’s updated production. And 35 years after it was originally released, the “Ride of Your Life” star manages to revamp it, making it her own.

The Tom Tom Club track has inspired several other stars over the years, too. Mariah Carey famously sampled the jam for her classic ’95 single “Fantasy,” while Mark Morrison did the same in ’96 for “Return of the Mack.”

Tupac and De La Soul are among other acts who’ve also released “Genius of Love”-influenced joints. Listen to Tinashe’s version below.
