Report: Elton John Enlists Young Thug for 'Rocket Man' Remix

  /  03.09.2016

Rocket Man and Thugger?! About three months after declaring himself a Young Thug fan, Elton John has reportedly teamed up with the eccentric Atlanta rapper for a collaboration.

According to The FADER, a FaceTime meeting between the two stars was set up by Lyor Cohen, the CEO of Thug’s label 300 Entertainment. From there, John sent Thug an instrumental version of his 1972 classic “Rocket Man” and a remix was born.

“It’s all the instrumental, the guitar, piano; and Thug is not rapping, he’s singing,” an insider said. “It’s really ambient and amazing.”

During a December interview with Noisey, John said he loved one of Thug’s songs without mentioning its name. “I love that record,” he said. “I actually asked [Universal Music CEO] David Joseph about it. I heard a track on Beats 1 and I loved it so much. But he’s got himself into trouble, hasn’t he?”

Then, John also praised Thug’s flamboyant nature.

“I love all of that,” he said. “It’s unexpected. I remember when Blind Faith came out, with a nude girl and John & Yoko, you had to buy it in a black plastic bag. And you should be able to do things like that but we don’t live in that kind of world anymore.”

There is no word on when their collaboration will be released. Meanwhile, Thugger is readying his next mixtape, Slime Season 3.
