New Music: Maxwell - 'Lake by the Ocean'

The wait is over. Nearly seven years since his last album BLACKsummers’night, Maxwell returns with his long-awaited single “Lake by the Ocean” from his upcoming album blackSUMMERS’night.

It’s a mellow track that will make you want to go for a swim with your special someone. “In the light of the sun, I was dazed,” sings the R&B veteran in his signature falsetto. “I was burned, I was lost / Deep in a storm of a grave / Had a bed as a coffin / You were only the one that made me fulfilled.”

Prior to the song’s release, Maxwell thanked his fans for their support throughout the years.

“We’ve been counting down to the single,” he said. “Over the course of the countdown, #UrbanHangSuite turned 20 years old. I can’t thank you enough for your patience. It’s priceless. Hope you enjoy ‘lake by the ocean’ available tomorrow on iTunes! look forward to a sunmer tour and of-course the album release this summer.”

blackSUMMERS’night arrives July 1, the same day he is set to co-headline the ESSENCE Festival in New Orleans.
