“Hallelujah!” Those praying for an official release of Alicia Keys’ new song just got what they’ve been asking for.
Stripped down, and emotional, the hand clap-inspired track has a religious theme that plays out in the lyrics. “I’ve been praying but I’m paying for my sins,” she sings. “Won’t you give me a sign if I lose my mind?”
“Hallelujah” is set to appear on Keys’ upcoming sixth album, the follow-up to 2012’s Girl on Fire, due later this summer.
“Hallelujah” also appears in the trailer for Let Me In, a film about refugees, that was also unveiled today. The Jonathan Olinger-directed film hits theaters June 20.
“Starring Alicia Keys, the film follows her and her family’s quest to survive after they experience unimaginable violence and embark on a journey that will forever change them,” says a statement on the movie’s YouTube page. “Along with thousands of Americans fleeing the conflict in Los Angeles, they must seek safety by attempting to cross the border into Mexico. Guided by their resolute love for each other and utter determination, the refugee family must navigate oceans and desserts in their unrelenting pursuit to find refuge and reunite.”
