Sheila E. Performs Prince Tribute at BET Awards
Prince’s longtime collaborator Sheila E. brought the house down with a riveting tribute to the late singer to cap off Sunday’s BET Awards.
Manning the drum set, the Oakland native set it off on the skins, crushing a rhythm section while belting out the lyrics to “Housequake.” She headed to the front of the stage for “Erotic City,” clad in a full white pantsuit, leading two backup dancers before taking to a cowbell and mini-drum setup. At the conclusion of the performance, she strapped on a purple electric guitar, running through “Baby I’m a Star” while a horn section blared behind her.
Sheila E. followed a night of Prince tributes including Erykah Badu, The Roots, Bilal, Maxwell, Janelle Monáe, Stevie Wonder, Tori Kelly, and Jennifer Hudson.
