Nas and Michael Kiwanuka

New Music: Michael Kiwanuka feat. Nas - 'Rule the World (I Came from the City)'

  /  08.11.2016

Nas once wondered what he would do if he ruled the world. Now, the Queensbridge don teams with British soul singer Michael Kiwanuka on another track with a similar title, “Rule the World (I Came from the City)” off The Get Down soundtrack.

“I came from the city,” raps Nas on his opening verse. “Got my name from the city / Where? The most dangerous city / Let’s take a trip back, back into time / 1977, it was maximum crime.”

According to Beats 1, Nas is actually rapping from the perspective of his Get Down character, Mr. Books, from the Netflix original series.

The show, which stars Jaden Smith, Shameik Moore, Justice Smith, Jimmy Smits, and Giancarlo Esposito, premieres Friday and the soundtrack is set to drop on the same day via Apple Music.

The star-studded compilation also features Miguel’s “Cadillac” and Janelle Monáe’s “Hum Along and Dance (Gotta Get Down).”
