NFL Says Adele Was Not Offered Super Bowl Halftime Show

  /  08.15.2016

The NFL takes on Adele.

Just a day after the British superstar said she declined an offer to perform at next year’s Super Bowl halftime show, the National Football League is denying that it extended an invitation, according to Billboard.

“First of all, I’m not doing the Super Bowl,” she told fans at Los Angeles’ Staples Center on Saturday (Aug. 13). “I mean, come on, that show is not about music. And I don’t really — I can’t dance or anything like that. They were very kind, they did ask me, but I said no.”

On Sunday, the NFL and Pepsi — partners in the halftime show — offered a joint statement regarding Adele’s remarks.

“The NFL and Pepsi are big fans of Adele,” they said. “We have had conversations with several artists about the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show. However, we have not at this point extended a formal offer to Adele or anyone else. We are focused on putting together a fantastic show for Houston and we look forward to revealing that in good time.”

There is still plenty of time to come up with a performer. Super Bowl LI is scheduled to take place on Feb. 5, 2017 at Houston’s NRG Stadium.

Beyoncé, Coldplay, and Bruno Mars provided the halftime entertainment at this year’s Super Bowl.
